Although 5TB hard disk drives should be upon us by now with 6TB ones following closely behind them it seems that manufacturers feel that 4TB is still more than just enough for the majority of consumers and even though they are probably right (judging by all the people i know) I’ve said it many times and will say it many more than until 10TB drives (or more) make their appearance in the market enthusiasts and professionals alike will not be completely satisfied (when you have 20-30TB of data it's neither easy nor convenient to have twice as many drives around just for backup purposes). Still it's not like we have any other choice so at least we can do our best to follow the flow of things and test as many 4TB hard disk drives as we can get our hands on so all of you can know what to expect. Such is the latest Nearline MG03ACA400 SATA III HDD model by Toshiba which we have on our test bench today.

Toshiba OCZ RD400 NVMe PCIe SSD 512GB Review @ KG
Storage
The Toshiba PX02SM series of SSDs leverages the enhanced speed of dual port 12Gb/s SAS, the Toshiba/Marvell controller and 24nm eMLC NAND to provide bleeding edge performance.

Toshiba is a world leader in many different technologies and applications. In the NAND market, for instance, they supply components for some of our favorite SSDs. But, they haven’t really been known as a major player in turn-key storage products. While they have an impressive offering of mechanical drives, especially for automotive and industrial uses, they are dwarfed by the duopoly that is Western Digital and Seagate. For SSDs, they are a major OEM supplier, but don’t have a major presence in the consumer market. Toshiba is a member of a select group that produces their own NAND. This puts them in the enviable position where they get to pay cost for the most expensive and important SSD component. They have the technology and manufacturing capabilities to put them on par with the Samsungs of the world in the SSD market, but that hasn’t seemed to be a priority for them.

Toshiba's read-intensive PX03SN enterprise SSDs deliver a value alternative for 12Gb/s SAS platforms. Read on for Paul's full take in his review.

Toshibas competing product comes in the form of the Toshiba Q Series Pro, which we’ll be reviewing today. Toshiba appears to have modeled their SSD lineup off of Samsung’s highly successful 840 Series with Toshiba releasing their latest Q Series and the Q Series Pro SSDs. The Toshiba Q Series Pro offers greater performance in comparison to its vanilla sibling...

We looked for a challenger to our current RAID SSD champion, and we found one in a drive we had already tested. Toshiba's Q Series Pro gets tested now.

The importance of Toshiba in the flash industry cannot be overstated. Toshiba is not only one of the world’s largest flash suppliers, but also, they are often recognized as the prime choice when SSD manufacturers are making quality SSDs. Some SSD manufacturers refuse to use anything nut Toshiba NAND flash memory in their SSDs. So where has Toshiba been as a SSD manufacturer? It is no secret that Toshiba was late from the gate in the SSD race right off, but really, why has Toshiba taken so long to mature with respect to both client and consumer SSDs?

Toshiba wants to be a serious player on the SSD market. The Japanese giant has been doing quite well the past few years as OEM supplier, by selling its SSDs to laptop and server manufacturers. Probably inspired by the success Samsung has been having with its 830 and 840 SSDs, Toshiba also wants a piece of that retail pie. For the first time, Toshiba has released a series of SSDs with consumer-friendly names. In this review we will take a closer look at the 128, 256 and 512 GB versions of Toshiba's new Q series.

Today we have one of Toshiba's latest solid state drives for review, the THNSNH256GCST, which is ideal for desktops and portable systems thanks to its compact 7mm casing.
