With the N4200 Pro, Thecus has further improved upon an already stable, high-performance four bay NAS. The upgraded hardware over the original N4200 make it a solid choice for a multiple user environment, and the mini-UPS and dual DOM features help avoid data loss in the event of a power outage or firmware corruption.

We've looked at the Corsair Performance 3 in both 256GB and 128GB sizes and in both cases found that the new Marvell 88SS9174-BKK2 controller offers the best garbage collection system we've ever seen. On the surface garbage collection may appear as a throwback technology only needed in SSDs running on Windows XP / Vista or MAC Oss, since Windows 7 takes advantage of TRIM commands.

Today we received an e-mail from Jessica Luken, Global Marketing Director of OCZ Technology stating that a new Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD was en route and, if you would believe it, we received the package not 20 minutes later. I will have to admit that I was a bit unprepared and stood their wondering what the difference was between the two Vertex 3's at only a $20 upgrade. The question then presented itself as to whether the consumer would see a marked difference between thet two.

It wasn't that long ago we had a look at the beta OCZ Vertex 3 drives with the next generation SandForce controller on board and few competitors. Other World Computing (OWC) has stepped up with the Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G line of solid state drives featuring the SF-2200 controller and a 6Gbps interface. This will heat up the competition and we'll see if their 16 channels per die put them over the top in terms of performance.

The Patriot Memory Supersonic 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive performed just about as expected, which means a new level of performance when upgrading from a USB 2.0 capable flash drive. The write speeds were almost as good as the published specification (70MB/s), while the read speeds actually exceeded Patriot Memory's specification (100MB/s).

Today we are going to take an indepth look at Cache Cade, a new approach to storage systems that allow the perfect fusion of HDD capacity and SSD speed. W ith many large databases and enterprise users ‘caught in the middle’ with large HDD arrays, yet needing more performance from their existing infrastructure, CacheCade is a great option that allows the best of both worlds.

Intel is a company best known for their high-performance computer processors and motherboards, yet they're considered leaders in several different technology sectors. Solid State Drive technology is one particular market segment that has plenty of fresh competition, fighting for both retail consumer and corporate enterprise dollars. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the Intel SSD 320 series solid state drive, which includes 25nm Intel MLC NAND Flash memory and Enhanced power-loss data protection. Speed and response time for the Intel SSD 320 is compared to several other competing storage solutions, demonstrating which SSD product delivers the best value for the money.

Today I’ve got another USB hard drive enclosure for review. I figured it might make sense to follow another one after the Gauntlet review I posted yesterday. Today I have one from Hornettek called the Shark, yes it’s an interesting name for sure for an external enclosure, but it’s not a bed product. The Shark is both metal and plastic, the outer shell is metal for protection and heat dissipation while the inner tray is plastic to help keep the weight down.

We’ve tested a few Synology products here at XSR over the past couple of years, but they’ve always been big Diskstations with plenty of storage capacity, or the physical space to add a large ammount of your own. Today I’m looking at something a little different. It still has Station in the name, but it won’t be building any “Good robot Us’es“, this one is a USB variant. No storage space of its own, but able to use your network and attached drives as its own personal data bank

Kitguru has been very impressed with the full range of Synology products over the last year. They have been targeting a wide demographic … from the enthusiast user on a strict budget, to large businesses and corporations who demand ultimate performance. Today we are looking at their new RackStation RS3411xs which can scale up to 100TB to satisfy the demands of an intensive business environment.
