In the world of flash storage, there is a multitude of big names on the playing field and for those who hold the highest reputations, they are either built on a long standing existence for example Sandisk and for some other vendors, the reputation they have built up from producing high quality products. Lexar is a company that in a sense falls into both categories and built as a spin-off company from Cirrus Logic in 1996, Lexar started off in developing flash controllers. Further down the line, Lexar was overtaken in ownership by Micron in 2006 and has since then been merged with Crucial as a subsidiary of Micron. Since then there has been a long line of flash storage products roll off the production line with the Lexar branding and moving forward to today we have the fastest and best looking flash drive that they have ever made.
The P10, as mentioned is quoted to be one of the fastest flash drives available to buy at this moment in time, offering up to 24x the performance of USB2.0 drives, The drive also features a sleek metal alloy body and come in capacities ranging from 16-64GB as it headlines Lexars USB flash drive lineup.

A few weeks back, we published our review of the Sony VAIO Pro 13 ultrabook where we discovered that there were two different configurations of the VAIO being shipped, that with a SATA M.2 SSD and that with a native M.2 PCIe SSD. Not only did the system that we received contain a SATA M.2 SSD, but also, a quick check of the internet revealed that there were several Sony VAIO Pro 13 customers just as surprised…and disapppointed. In subsequent conversations with Sony, we learned that certain pre-configured Sony Pro 13 models shipped with the M.2 SATA SSD, vice the native M.2 PCIe SSD.
Earlier in the year I had my first look at a new line of devices that over the recent months have been getting more and more popular with people on the go who need heaps of storage with them. Naturally I’m taking about wireless hard drives and when I first saw the Gauntlet way back last year at a trade show, Patriot were keen to show me what these drives had to offer, with scalability for connecting up to three devices at once and streaming content through the use of a mobile application that can be downloaded through Google Play and the Apple App Store.
What really set these units apart from the likes of Kingston’s Wi-Drive was that considerably larger storage capacity – offering up to 320GB through a 2.5” hard drive. Battery life was also fairly remarkable at the time as well with around 4 hours of continuous use to be expected and seen.
Moving forward to today, the Gauntlet series of wireless hard drives is now seeing its third member to the line-up. So far we have seen the Gauntlet with 320GB of storage and the Aero; a disk-less option that gives flexibility for users to install their own hard drive or even an SSD for better battery life. Let’s be honest though, 320GB doesn’t exactly seem a lot since yester-year and consequently Patriot have addressed this with the release of the Aero – a drive of the same design, but this time with a whopping 1TB capacity and improved battery life to go along with it.
For those who have read my review on the Gauntlet, which can be found here: Patriot Gauntlet 320Gb Review, this review is going to feel quite de-ja-vous, but I am going to briefly touch on the design followed as expected by the performance figures to see if there is any gain in performance from the larger drive.
Sometimes we get fortunate enough to have just the right hardware at just the right time. Such was the case when Sony sent us their new VAIO Pro 13 Ultrabook with a Samsung XP941 M.2 PCIe SSD for review. That SSD provided performance speeds over 1GB/s and enabled our statement of the VAIO Pro 13 as being the smallest, lightest and highest performing ultrabook available to the consumer today. In publishing that report, we found ourselves with two Samsung XP941 M.2 PCIe SSDs on hand and the opportunity to configure one dynamite RAID 0 configuration, the other XP941 having been the subject of this SSD analysis.
