Earlier today we explained what SATA Express is and now we have the opportunity to show off the first 2.5-inch SATA Express drive that we have had the chance to take a look at personally. Our friends at ASUS gave Legit Reviews a chance to see and benchmark the ASUS Hyper Express SATA Express External Enclosure. ASUS will be coming out with several versions of the ASUS Hyper Express. Read on to find out more about the ASUS Hyper Express!

When we look at the number of bays that each and every NAS on the market has to offer, typically we find the bays rising in multiples of 2, although we do find that there are 5 and 7 bay options out there as well for those who want to bridge the price gap between the 4-6 bay price bracket and additionally the 6-8 bay bracket. Typically in the home environment we find users buying 2-4 bay systems and with capacities of up to 16TB on offer, this is generally more than enough to suit the majority of users in this group. On the other end of the scale in the enterprise market, 16-bay systems are not uncommon and in some cases 24-bay systems can be found, but in between these two extreme ends of the market is the SMB (Small-to-Medium-Business) and SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) group of users. At this level in the market, 4 bay systems are ample solutions to go for but in most cases they are just a starting point, with users and businesses soon seeing that they need to go up to a 6 or 8 bay system to suffice their needs. As said though, the price difference in some cases is quite notable and this is where units such as Synology’s DS1513+ come into play.

The KingSpec CHA-M2B7 M.2 NGFF ultrabook SSD is available in capacities of 32, 64 an 128GB and is a 42mm(L) X 22mm(W)X3.2mm(H) SATA M.2 SSD. To say it is small is an understatement as we can fit four of these on a typical business card with plenty of room to spare.

While the Seagate 600 is a fantastic consumer oriented drive, it also has an enterprise oriented twin – the Seagate 600 Pro, which we’ll be checking out today. Now the Seagate 600 Pro is a fairly new category of SSD that’s become quite popular with enterprise users in recent years. Whereas faster, costlier, and more durable SLC NAND has traditionally been used...

2014 is finally here people and just like one of my friends says each year is a brand new 365 paged book so make sure you all write each page the best way you can. 2014 is a particularly special year since there are many things for us to look forward including the new X99 chipset based mainboards by Intel (finally something to replace our X79 system although we will keep it as well to continue with some of our databases) which will also use the brand new DDR4 RAM, new SSD/HDD hybrid models with large capacity NAND flash, new HDDs with at least 6TB capacities and of course new SSD NAND flash controllers. CES may just be 4 days away but some prototypes may actually make it there in time (if not we will probably see them in this year’s CeBIT) so if you live near Las Vegas i strongly recommend attending if you'd like a first row seat on everything new to come in 2014. Now normal SATA III SSDs may not be the hottest hardware component around currently but thanks to all the continuous price drops sales keep increasing so naturally every manufacturer out there wants a piece of the pie. Kingston has been amongst the top players for quite some time now and although they have enough SSD models to cover every consumer out there still they keep adding more the last of which is the SSDnow KC300.

VisionTek is an American-based company that traditionally has been known for graphic cards, and started to get their feet wet in memory and flash storage back in 2011. Recent designs in the laptop market are now seeing the availability of both an mSATA connector for SSDs, as well as the typical SATA connector for hard drives; the Lenovo Thinkpad is a great example of this. With the demand for additional capacity, we had also seen adapters which allowed for the swapping of optical drives for an additional hard drive. But what about newer models that have eliminated the optical drive altogether, or older models where you don’t want to give up the optical drive?

Samsung is a manufacturer that needs no introduction and they are about to release a mSATA SSD that will definitely be making waves across the SSD market, never mind the technology world.
