OCZ have just released their latest Agility EX drive which differs from anything we have reviewed in the past because it is the first SLC based SSD drive aimed at a price point to target the mass enthusiast market. While Single Level cell (SLC) and Multi Level Cell (MLC) are similar in design, MLC flash costs considerably less to produce and allows for higher storage density. The benefits with SLC flash drives are that they provide faster write performance and greater reliability, even at temperatures above the operating range of MLC Flash devices.

Enthusiasts are no stranger to RAID arrays. While server administrators depend on the redundancy of RAID-1 and other safe multi-drive configurations, performance enthusiasts are willing to risk it all for the promise of twice the normal performance from a striped RAID-0 array. To enjoy the added speed there must be two identical drives to which the data can split and write to each drive in stripes. Solid State Drive products already come at a premium over their hard drive counterparts, and most enthusiasts save up for just one SSD to help launch their computer system into hyper-speed. For the first time, SSDs are available in a twin-pack set, as Benchmark Reviews tests the Corsair P64 RAID PK1 kit. This SSD set includes two Corsair P64 64GB MLC drives, each with the part number CMFSSD-64GBG2D.

When I first received the OCZ Agility I knew it was a more affordable version of the OCZ Vertex I reviewed earlier. Even with the specifications claiming otherwise, I was expecting to see a drop in performance as cost cutting measures were in full effect to make this drive more affordable to the public. How pleasantly pleased I was, to be wrong!

OCZ has earned the pole position in the race for Solid State Drive consumer supremacy. Most of the OCZ SSD product line is sold at retail to enthusiast end-users, but the EX-series offers SLC construction and delivers premier performance to the Enterprise sector and an affordable price. Corporate environments offer vast potential for SSD technology by offering drive performance faster than SAS-based storage, and dramatically reducing heat output. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the 60GB OCZ Agility EX SSD OCZSSD2-1AGTEX60G, and Indilinx-based SLC Solid State Drive.

The Torqx performed very well and near or at the top in just about all benchmarks. That being said, benchmarks do not always equate to how the drives perform in the real world and over time. I spent some time playing around on Windows 7 installed on the drive for quite while. I did a lot of multi-tasking, simultaneous file copies and moves, and played a game or two as well. I didn't notice any problems with stuttering and the system felt very crisp and responsive with Windows booting in less than twenty seconds from completion of BIOS load.

In this review we are going to take a look on the performance of the first 2 TB drives from Western Digital that spin at 7,200 rpm, RE4 and Caviar Black.

It is one of the thinner, sleeker drives on the market and is probably one of the most stylish. These drives are available in ten different colors and can be personalized with MusicSkins specifically designed for the Seagate FreeAgent Go.

I don't know how many times I've needed to back up my hard drive for a reinstall of my OS and been left wanting because I didn't have any place to put all my pictures and data. I've had to rewrite several articles and reviews do to exactly such a scenario. It's a sad fact, but if you store your most valuable data on your main HDD, there's a good chance you'll lose it. My only problem with external HDD space is that even with USB 2.0, it's still slow as Hell when it comes to large file transfers. Ever had to move 50 Gig of video files over a USB connection? It's like dial-up, man. But Verbatim has stepped up to the plate and served a little more than a homerun. Try four of them.

I’ve taken a look at many external hard drive enclosures in my time, but none quite like the one I’ve got for review today. The Vantec NexStar Vault is an enclosure for a 2.5” SATA hard drive, but as the name might suggest, it makes your secure. The Vault does this by incorporating a numerical keypad into it, you must enter a six digit combination to access the drive. It’s much more than that tough, the Vault automatically formats your drive half public and half private, so the end user really just has to put the drive in and that’s it. It can’t get much easier than that really.

Today I have the Cirago 250GB Portable USB Hard Drive for review. The CST5250 is one of the smallest 2.5” external hard drives I’ve come across, making it very portable, but portable doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t perform well. The CST5250 is also nicely made, it has a metal housing so it should be able to endure a bit of daily abuse and the metal should help keep it cooler as well.
