If you've ever wanted a compact storage device that was small, had its own power supply, and wirelessly accessible, then the Patriot Gauntlet 320 fits the build perfectly. While capable of connecting via SuperSpeed USB 3.0, the Patriot Gauntlet is so much more. Designed as a portable hard disk drive with 320GB of storage space, 5.5-hour lithium-ion battery, and and integrated 150Mbps Wi-Fi b/g/n access point, the Patriot Gauntlet 320 (PCGTW320S) simultaneously streams media to up to five devices. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the Patriot Gauntlet 320 using Google Android and Apple iPhone devices as well as digital media players and the PC platform.

While at CES earlier this year we stopped by OCZ Technology's suite for a look at what they had planned for the coming year. The focus of their display was the emerging solid state drive market with several new and updated lines on display. While there we were also shown a prototype of their upcoming USB 3.0 portable solid state drive which was nameless at the time. Preliminary read / write speeds looked promising and the drive itself was encased in a sleek brushed aluminum enclosure. That prototype would eventually be called Enyo and we have one of the first production samples for review here today.

The SanDisk Extreme II SSD has shown some of the best test results we have seen to date and they have been consistent. In examining PCMark Vantage alone, surpassing that 70,000 point plateau is hard enough, but scoring between the Samsung Pro and OCZ Vector we truly never believed would occur!

Desktop docks are nothing new. We first looked at the ThermalTake BlacX two years ago and love the idea of being able to use raw HDDs without opening our computer cases. If you are someone like me with several drives sitting around, the idea is brilliant. The early models had a few shortfalls, though, mainly their reliance on the aging USB 2.0 protocol and placing the power button on the back of the dock. The latter issue was due to the urge to save money at the R&D level. With the button at the back you had to reach around the dock which was kind of a pain in the butt.

There is no doubt that the most innovative SSD to come out of 2010 was the Viding Modular Solutions SATADIMM. Based on another 2010 standout, the SandForce SF-1000 Series controller, the SATADIMM is not only a great example of SSD technology revolutionizing the storage market, but also how thoughtful manufacturers can shape future standards. Viking Modular Solutions isn't a high volume manufacturer and you aren't going to find many of their products in the retail market. Viking is far from a one hit wonder, though. The company was started in 1988 and since their first product has been manufacturing high quality parts for the enterprise market space and for some of the world's largest OEM manufacturers.

SATA 6GB/s drives are here to stay and Corsairs Performance Pro Series returns some impressive numbers to take advantage of the increased bandwidth. The Performance Pro Series proves that the latest Marvell controller is not afraid of anyone with its impressive read and write performance. A 3 year warranty is just icing on the cake for an outstanding performing drive.

There are a lot of hard drive enclosures out there. No, really! Go punch "USB HDD enclosure" into Google or NewEgg some time, you'll be buried in them. This makes it rather hard for any one enclosure to have much success. Generally, the only way to stand out is to make it a funny shape, or offer some unusual feature. IN-WIN have decided to do both with the AMMO 2.5" HDD enclosure, shaping it like the magazine of an AR-15 and offering hardware-based encryption with RFID token-based access. Is this combination enough to make it worth your while? Let's find out.

When the G.Skill Phoenix 100GB drive arrived I was a bit surprised by the timing since the Falcon and Falcon II were some of the first Indilinx and Indilinx ECO drives we tested and found for sale. As always, I wanted to take a look at the new drive, but in the back of my mind I was thinking that the Phoenix would be just another run of the mill, Team SandForce product. To back that up I took a look at G.Skill's product page and sure enough, nothing special was listed and the specs sheet gave us the same impression.

Once upon a time between 2004-2006, OCZ was a well-known manufacturer of high-end memory components and power supply units that sold under the motto "Founded by Enthusiasts, for Enthusiasts". During the peak economy in 2007, OCZ Technology CEO Ryan Petersen proved his devotion to enthusiasts by purchasing PC Power & Cooling (May 2007), swiftly followed by elite system-builder Hypersonic PC (October 2007). Through the years that followed, OCZ's brand name would successfully sell NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, overclocker heatsinks, premium thermal pastes, hardcore gaming peripherals, and even a mind-controlled Neural Impulse Actuator (NIA). On March 2008, OCZ Technology revealed the industry's first consumer Solid State Drive - the apex of their dedication towards high-performance computer hardware enthusiasts. The future looked so very bright, until stock value became the mission. As of 26 October 2012, many of the great minds behi! nd OCZ's enthusiast movement were without work.
