The OWC DIY Kit is compatible with the latest Mid-2012 non-Retina Macbook Pros and helps us install an additional disk drive by replacing the Apple SuperDrive. The kit also incorporates a high-performance SSD from the same manufacturer (SandForce powered) and for $39.99 extra we can also have the Super Slim USB 2.0 Enclosure for the removed SuperDrive.

The new DS213air NAS from Synology is quite an interesting product, offering a WiFi interface that can be used as a wireless hotspot, a wireless router or to join a wireless network. Besides the good performance on wired LAN, we can also enjoy the DSM 4 interface, which is really easy to use. The price, however, is a bit high so we would recommend it more in small business environments rather than for homes.

It has been a really long time since we have reviewed a product from Mushkin. Mushkin has mainly been known for memory products, but like most memory companies have moved into the storage realm with solid state drives. Today we are taking a look at their top tier SATA 6GB/s Chronos Deluxe Drive. The big difference between this drive and the normal Chronos is that it uses premium Toshiba toggle mode NAND memory and the Chronos uses asynchronous NAND memory. This is the new 7mm drive as well, so you will be able to use it as an upgrade for thin devices like your Ultrabook. Read on as we take a look at the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB Solid State Drive!

In this review PCSTATS is checking out Lexar's stylish 64GB JumpDrive Triton - a nice looking retractable thumb drive housed in a weighty metal alloy case. Lexar's USB 3.0 thumb drive is rated for speeds of 155MB/s read and 150MB/s write -- that's pretty quick. For a clearer picture of its capabilities PCSTATS will need to benchmark the Lexar JumpDrive Triton against comparable USB 3.0 drives of similar capacities.

Kingston, like other memory manufacturers, wanted to get into the solid state storage game a few years back. At the time they chose to partner with Intel, offering their own label on the chipmaker’s first gen SSDs like enterprise-oriented X25-E. Eventually, they branched out with new controllers from Toshiba and JMicron, resulting in a bewildering array of options. More recently, Kingston switched to second generation SandForce ASICs for the original HyperX, eventually leading to a host of SF-powered offerings for consumer and businesses alike. Part of what made the original HyperX such an interesting product was its use of 5,000PE cycle-rated flash. Due to their longstanding relationship with Intel, Kingston was able to get their hands on Intel’s special stash of 25nm NAND rated at 5K PE cycles for the first HyperX. That drive, and the more value conscious 3K model which followed, went on to become incredibly popular with enthusiasts.

Designed to replace the existing SSDNow V200 models, Kington's new SSDNow V300 Series V300 offers sequential read and write speeds of around 450MB/s, uses a customized LSI SandForce SF-2281 controller, along with 19nm NAND flash memory components.

The Seagate 750GB Momentus XT is a fairly typical 7200RPM hard drive that has been optimized with 8GB of flash memory cache. After Seagate's Adaptive Memory technology learns what data to move into the cache, those tasks execute much faster than on a typical hard drive. While still not as fast as a SSD, the drive was noticeably faster than a standard hard drive.

Just 2 days prior to getting into 2013 we had to sit down and pick the first product reviews which would get us into 2013 for good and since recently we promised to bridge the gap created in our SSD reviews section we decided to test yet another such product. Now if you read our Intel 335 SSD review you should be well aware that the performance factor regarding SATA III solid state drives hasn't really changed that much in 2012 (always compared to 2011) and so at least until the new controllers arrive in late Q1 (if all goes according to plan) we really can't expect to come across anything that will blow what we currently know out of the water. 2012 however did see a significant price drop in SSDs and so currently consumer models with capacities up to 240GB are surprisingly easy to acquire. Still there are some SSDs in the market with businesses as their target audience and the Kingston SSDNow KC100 240GB solid state drive we have here with us today is such a solution.
