There is no doubt that the most innovative SSD to come out of 2010 was the Viding Modular Solutions SATADIMM. Based on another 2010 standout, the SandForce SF-1000 Series controller, the SATADIMM is not only a great example of SSD technology revolutionizing the storage market, but also how thoughtful manufacturers can shape future standards. Viking Modular Solutions isn't a high volume manufacturer and you aren't going to find many of their products in the retail market. Viking is far from a one hit wonder, though. The company was started in 1988 and since their first product has been manufacturing high quality parts for the enterprise market space and for some of the world's largest OEM manufacturers.

Every now and then something comes around that is particularly eye catching and the world of SSDs is no different. The Viking Modular SATADIMM is just one of those things and we thought we might venture outside the box just a bit and put a 25GB SLC version of the SATADIMM to the test. It can be described as a wolf in sheeps clothing because, although it does look like a typical RAM module, it is really anything but.

Today for review I’ve got the Verbatim Tuff-Clip 8GB USB drive. This USB drive resembles a carabineer style clip that you can attach to most anything. The drive comes with software to create two partitions as well, one secure and one public so you can hide any important data so it can’t be accessed without a password. I’ve put it up against a few other 8gb USB drives I’ve got on hand for comparison and the Tuff-Clip performs well actually..

Verbatim is a brand most will be familiar with for their optical media; you can find spindles of Verbatim DVD-Rs and CD-Rs on the shelves of just about every electronics aisle in the country. Their name is built, more or less entirely, on media for physically shuttling bits from place to place. It is no surprise then, that they would choose to branch out into portable hard drives. Today we'll be looking into one of their latest offerings, the Store 'n' Go USB 3.0.
