ASUS has a reputation for bringing cream-of-the-crop products to the marketplace, and branding them with the TOP badge. The new Radeon RV790 GPU is the next well-bred concept from the ATI labs, and in this article Benchmark Reviews tests the performance of the new ASUS Radeon HD 4890 GDDR5 EAH4890TOP video card against the rest of the high-end segment. Overclocked to 900MHz this Radeon 4890 is the most-powerful single GPU video card produced by AMD, it's going to be a tough fight to beat out NVIDIA.

We proceed with a series of practical articles, in which we analyze sufficiency of various CPU+GPU combinations for games, trying to keep our test conditions as close to popular realia as possible. We hope that such articles will come in handy to readers willing to reasonably distribute their budget between a graphics card and a processor.

Alright. Time for a refresh, it's almost spring, and that's the season for growing video cards. The HD 4890 is, for all intensive porpoises, a retooled HD 4870, which, in my humble opinion, is overdue. Not that the 4870 was by any means a bad card, and it certainly got its deserved amount of press, but it had its failings and, when prices were even, I'd generally recommend a GTX 260. AMD doesn't like losing on the price front, that's for damn sure. But it never hurts to have a great high-end card, either. Look, this card still isn't a match for the ridongulous GTX 285 or the limited 295, but it's an outstanding improvement over the HD 4870. Enough to upgrade?

Sapphire did a good thing by bringing a feature rich HD4850 videocard on the market that won't break the bank, but isn't holding back any performance. The card is priced well, relatively fast, quiet and overclocks very well.

GTX 295 is a very fast card, the first of its kind so far. But much depends on its price tag. Perhaps, it's cheaper to buy two GTX 280 cards that will apparently be faster in the SLI mode? So be sure to watch the prices.

Regardless of your reasons, people are now used to running multiple monitors in everyday situations... but not every computer is equipped with multiple display ports. Some monster cards, like the Sapphire 4850 X2 reviewed here, have four DVI ports, which is more than enough for even Al Gore. Most add-on graphics cards only have 2 ports, and only one of them may be DVI. Notebooks (and netbooks) usually only have a single VGA port, if they have one at all. If only there was some way to upgrade your monitor and desktop space without opening your computer.

Nvidia’s GT200 core first made an appearance on the GTX 280 and 260 back in June of 2008. Since then we have seen it used on the GTX 295, GTX 285 and GTX 275 as well as in a modified version of the GTX 260 with additional unified shaders. Today we take a look at several of the cards based on the GT200 core as well as a GTS 250 to see which offer the best value for gaming and GPU computing tasks. For anyone considering the purchase of a GeForce product in the next few months this article is essential reading.
