We are looking at a high-end Radeon HD card from ASUS. It's their ASUS Radeon HD7790 1GB DirectCU II OC. A default Overclocked Graphics Card. We have tested several factory overclocked cards in the same segment, so let's see how the ASUS Radeon HD7790 1GB DirectCU II OC performs.

We've already seen and reviewed AMD's reference R9 270X, be sure to check that review out here, but today we have a variant from an AMD partner - more specifically the ASUS Radeon R9 270X Direct CU II TOP 2GB graphics card. The Direct CU II TOP version is based on the best speed binned R9 270X GPUs ASUS could get, they are then overclocked a pretty significant amount and given the ASUS Direct CU II cooling treatment. ASUS claim to be 20% cooler and 3X quieter than the reference design with DIGI+ Syper Alloy VRM components that have 30% less power noise and 2.5X longer lifespan than reference components. The cooler itself uses three large 8mm heatpipes and a pair of 80mm fans to dissipate heat over a dense aluminium heatsink. Given the reputation of the ASUS Direct CU II implementation we can expect it to be a pretty cool and quiet running graphics card while the TOP aspect should see it perform much better than a normal R9 270X, and even overclock a bit further than normal GPUs would.

It's been a while since we've looked at an ASUS video card, and we get stuck back into it today with the R9 270X DirectCU II TOP 3GB.

This is the R9-270X and our version is the ASUS DirectCU 2 TOP 2GB, an overclocked version of the card which we will be comparing to the closest NVIDIA model (pricing wise) in the form of the GTX 760. We’ll also throw in the ASUS 280X as well to show what that extra £90 or so gets us. We are testing on the latest i7-4960X CPU, Windows 8.1 and games such as Battlefield 4, F1 2013 and Total War: Rome 2 and by the end of the article it should give you an idea of which mainstream card is best for you… or whether you should go higher up the product family.

It's been a while since we've looked at an ASUS video card, but we get stuck back into it today with the OC-friendly R9 280X DirectCU II TOP 3GB.

Today we will cover the highest specification model available at the time of writing, the R9 280X and our version is the ASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectCU 2 TOP 3GB. That is an overclocked version of the card and one of the highest specification models around. We will be comparing it to the two closest NVIDIA models (pricing wise) in the form of the GTX 760 and 770 (both OC models) as well as the part the 280X replaces, the 7970 GHZ. We are testing on the latest i7-4960X CPU, Windows 8.1 and games such as Battlefield 4, F1 2013 and Total War: Rome 2.

Today we are checking out our third Radeon R9 280X graphics card. The previous two cards were from Sapphire and Gigabyte and both those cards featured factory overclocks and custom cooling solutions. That card we are taking a look at today is no different. The ASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP features a factory overclock up to 1070 MHz, ASUS’s own DirectCU II cooling solution, DIGI+ VRM with 12-phase Super Alloy Power, and ASUS’s own GPU Tweak utility for easy tuning and monitoring of the card. Will this be your choice when looking at a Radeon R9 280X? Read on and find out!
