Nvidia erteilt den Startschuss für die GeForce-GTX-700-Serie. Den Anfang macht das Flaggschiff GeForce GTX 780, ein Ableger der außerordentlich erfolgreichen GTX Titan.

The performance decrease that we expected to see from Titan was present, but not nearly as bad as we expected. For example in Metro: Last Light at 5760x1080 the GeForce GTX 780 was just 9% slower than the GeForce GTX Titan. At 2560x1600 and 1920x1080 screen resolutions that performance gap narrowed to just 4-6 percent, which is on the borderline of being significant. Our testing in Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3, Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider all showed similar results. Just for fun we also benchmarked the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 video card that came out in November 2010 and found that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 nearly doubles the performance of that card. If you happen to have one of those cards and are looking for a significant performance jump before you update, you finally have a good option and it no longer costs $999...

Last week we took a look at the Nvidia GTX 780, their first card in the 700 series of cards. Surprisingly I am sitting here a week later already telling you about their next card: the GTX 770. Is the combination of the GTX 780 and GTX 770 a one-two punch or a hit and a miss? Well in order to find out we had to put it through our benchmark suite to see what it was capable of. I enjoyed the GTX 780; I hope they are able to keep it up with the GTX 770.

AMD's Radeon 7790, codenamed 'Bonaire' has been in the retail channels for a few weeks now and from what I gather, it has been welcomed very kindly by the consumers with its good level of performance for its price (as shown by the number of cards that I've looked at so far). Whilst the launch is a little while ago now, there are still a few of AMD's partners that are keen for me to take a look at their cards and see how well they perform in one of the closest fought battles to be the best card that I have seen in a fair while. With different cards each giving their own edge over other brands in terms of overclocking ability, performance, cooling, temperatures and design, HIS have got their work cut out to make their card stand out over the rest.
It has been a little while since I've had a play with a HIS card - the last one being a 7750 which was launched right back at the start of last year and as we will see there are always those little things that certain brands stick to; in the case of HIS, this is the use of a green/blue PCB and blue fan - its all part of their colour scheme and it certainly makes their card that bit more distinct.

The HD 7870 DEVIL is not the spawn of arcane knowledge and the occult unlike the first PowerColor DEVIL video card. The HD 7870 DEVIL instead is hewn from the familiar Pitcairn XT GPU as if it is just like any other HD 7870 but upon closer inspection, it is more than that. Draped in a cold black and blood red shroud, the PowerColor HD 7870 DEVIL has 1100MHz core clock with 1250MHz memory clock that can be pushed significantly further with additional voltage without burning out due to an unholy trinity of guardian fans that ensure its survival. The PowerColor HD 7870 DEVIL can blend in and mate with other HD 7870 to increase its power further through CrossFire breeding. Should the the HD 7870 DEVIL fail at any time within 2-years of existence, PowerColor will re-spawn an identical HD 7870 DEVIL to take its place.

We already liked the MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC when we tested it as part of our GeForce GTX 760 round-up. It had the right combination of price, performance and low noise levels. The slightly more expensive Hawk made an even better impression. The Hawk is just as quiet, slightly faster and more importantly, it has great overclocking potential, and the triple voltage and the measuring points are great features for overclockers.

Nvidia’s GTX 760 has been out now for quite a while and we’ve seen a whole variety of models hit the market. At eTeknix we’ve only managed to review one GTX 760 so far and that was the rather epic KFA2 GTX 760 EX OC 2GB graphics card. Today we’ve got another enthusiast grade overclocked GTX 760 from Gigabyte. The GTX 760 WindForce OC 2GB graphics card we have here today is using Gigabyte’s WindForce 3X cooler capable of handling thermal loads of up to 450W. It uses a trio of 80mm fans to help keep this graphics card running cool and quiet.
Gigabyte have wasted no time in giving this GTX 760 a hefty dollop of extra performance as they have raised both the core clock and GPU boost clock. The core clock has been raised from 980MHz to 1085MHz while the boost clock has been increased from 1033MHz to 1150MHz. By my calculations that’s a 10.8% overclock on the GPU core clock and an 11.3% overclock on the GPU boost clock. The memory has been left untouched at the stock 1502MHz actual, 6008MHz effective speed. Right away then we should expect the WindForce GTX 760 OC graphics card to be around 10-15% faster than a reference GTX 760 meaning it will be much faster than the current Nvidia GTX 670 and maybe even GTX 680.
