AMD have been taking all the headlines in the last month, releasing a slew of graphics cards – including the class leading (but noisy) R9 290 and R9 290X. The R9 290X managed to take the performance crown from Nvidia’s GTX 780 and GTX Titan in the ultra high end at both 1600p and Ultra HD 4K resolutions. Nvidia have been hard at work behind the scenes however and today they release their new GTX780 Ti. The big question we need to answer … is it enough to push the formidable R9 290X into second place?
This week AMD launch their new R9 270 graphics card – set to replace the HD7850 at the lower end of the enthusiast gaming market. La GTX 780 Ti de Nvidia représente actuellement le must en termes de carte mono-GPU, particulièrement en terme de performances. La carte est clairement bluffante et ce fût un plaisir de la lancer à l’assaut de nos benchs. On vous laisse imaginer notre plaisir lorsqu’on a appris que nous allions recevoir un premier modèle custom de la fameuse carte de Nvidia. If you are in the market for a high end graphics solution then Sapphire surely have to be on your final shortlist. The company have been releasing award winning graphics cards consistently for the last year – featuring the best coolers that money can buy. Today we look at their very latest R9 290X Vapor-X OC featuring a custom designed three fan cooler and out of the box overclocked speeds. Is it worth the £500 asking price?
Out of the five GTX 970 cards we tested it is a draw between the ASUS Strix and MSI Gaming kaarten, both have excellent performance, are priced competitive and are quiet. The Gigabyte and Inno 3D kaarten are slightly faster out of the box than the ASUS and MSI but are also noisier. The Zotac card looks special, but has a price to match that and we could not see the value or get the results from the special overclock PCB as you have seen in the test. Out of all GeForce GTX 980 cards tested we prefer the Palit Super JetStream, its fast, affordable, the quietest and has plenty of overclocking headroom to boot. Should you want to look at three or four way SLI we would not use the Pali as it takes up three slots. The EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 is almost as good as the palit and can be easily used in a multi GPU setup. The new fans used on this EVGA card should last longer as well, but we can not prove this at the moment. The Strix and Gaming cards from ASUS and MSI are both good cards, but the Gigabyte and Inno3D GTX 980 cards are to loud for our liking. The Zotac card deserves a special mention as this is the fastest card in our test with excellent overclocking headroom and not too noisy under load.
