After an unexpected delay (and plenty of rumors that soon followed), AMD's Radeon HD 6970 and Radeon HD 6950 finally see the light of day. The Cayman GPU brings a new VLIW4 core design that enables better efficiency and improved tessellation performance among others. AMD has positioned the HD 6970 as the superior enthusiast GPU, while the HD 6950 is touted to be in a class of its own. But still, the burning question: can the AMD Radeon HD 6970 subdue NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580?
Our second HD 6970 arrived and it was from no one other than AMD themselves. We knew that there was only one thing to do, though, and that was to Crossfire this bad boy. In October we saw the HD 6800s launch and when we tested them in Crossfire we were amazed at the awesome scaling the series was offering.

Already we’ve taken the time to look at the entry level HD 6850. With that out the way it’s time to look at the HD 6870, a model that is again not designed to replace the HD 5870. It’s important that we continue to push this as I’m still reading on a lot of forums that people are under the impression the HD 6800 series is a flat out replacement for the HD 5800 series.
Graphic cards
This is one of the latest graphics cards from AMD is is aimed at the mid to high range market. It was launched to take over from the successful HD 5770 and gives a slight performance boost as well as featuring improved AMD Eyefinity with support upto 6 monitors, an improved renamed version of ATI Stream Technology to balance your CPU/GPU power and also 2nd generation DirectX11 for support with the latest games whilst giving show-stopping quality graphics.
AMD Radeon HD 6870 1024MB performs similarly to or a bit slower than GeForce GTX 470. However, it also consumes less power, meaning that it's cooler and quieter. Five interfaces are also a plus. If Radeon HD 6870 is cheaper than GeForce GTX 470, it will sell well.
Unser Test der Radeon HD 6850 und HD 6870 ist nun mit etwas Verspätung auch startklar. Mit über 6000 Benchmarkwerten dürfte er in Sachen Performance der neuen Radeon Karten kaum Fragen offen lassen.
