How does a second GeForce GTX 980 Ti help out at 6480x3840? Well, a lot.

When we released our NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 launch article we only had the ASUS GeForce GTX 950 STRIX Gaming 2GB to look at, but since then we’ve gotten cards from both EVGA and Zotac. It’s been over a year since we’ve done a video card roundup, so we figured we give it a shot and see what happens....

Sapphire are the biggest AMD graphics card partner and a few months ago they released an overclocked version of the 4870 (Toxic edition) carrying a custom cooling solution. In the midst of all the rebranding and fine-tuning, NVIDIA managed to make again, the most powerful single-GPU video card. Well, they also made the most powerful dual-GPU video card but that’s not what I’m reviewing, is it. I’m reviewing the GTX 285, the die-shrunk, power-boosted bastard of the GTX 280. It’s really, really powerful. There has to be some kind of flaw, right? In some ways, it’s overpriced, but is that even fair? It’s maybe a bit expensive, but only compared to other video cards--for less than $400, I’m sure everyone at NVIDIA thinks they’re just giving these away. Which is sad for them, great for everyone else. This is an exemplary performer on its own, and costs $200 less than the GTX 280 back when it came out. Did I mention how frustratingly powerful it is?

GTX 295 is a very fast card, the first of its kind so far. But much depends on its price tag. Perhaps, it's cheaper to buy two GTX 280 cards that will apparently be faster in the SLI mode? So be sure to watch the prices.

In this review we will be looking at MSI version of this new card called the Radeon HD 4890 OC. OC stands for overclocked meaning it comes from the factory with a slightly better clock speed from what ATI had intended. Typically OC cards don't overclock well but with a little tweaking you can usually squeeze out a few more frames or, simply leave the card alone and enjoy the nice performance boost.

This product fits between GeForce GTX 260 and GeForce GTX 285 in terms of performance and price. As we have already mentioned, the new card has been designed to oppose RADEON HD 4890, the most powerful single-GPU card from AMD. This corresponds to the $260 price tag -- more expensive than GTX 260, but cheaper than GTX 285.
