This week AMD launch their new R9 270 graphics card – set to replace the HD7850 at the lower end of the enthusiast gaming market. Thankfully today we haven’t been forced to review a reference AMD solution and instead we can focus on some higher grade partner cards.

It's been a while since we've looked at an ASUS video card, but we get stuck back into it today with the OC-friendly R9 280X DirectCU II TOP 3GB.

For a card that flew in under the radar the AMD Radeon R7 260 is a great product for any gamer on a tight budget. When playing through our benchmarks (with high settings) we only ran into a few games that had noticeable stutter while playing, but the games with issues are still some of the most demanding on the market.

The Nvidia GTX 750 Ti is a great graphics card but the reference design that we reviewed was lacking a little something. I am hoping that today ASUS can bring some improvements to the table with the ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC graphics card we are looking at. With this graphics card ASUS are using their “Direct CU II style design”, however, this is not actually a Direct CU II product. This is because ASUS have not chosen to use any heat pipes at all – that’s right, not heat pipes. We’re hoping that this won’t affect cooling performance too much but we’ll have to wait until the test results before that can be determined. ASUS have added a pair of their fans which they claim provide twice the airflow and a three times reduction in noise over the reference design.

Today we take the Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X OC and put it head to head with the GeForce GTX 780 at 1080p and 4K in titles including Wolfenstein The New Order, Battlefield 4, F1 2013 and Crysis 3.

2015 has started with a whimper, more than a bang. AMD have yet to release new architecture so it falls on their partners to create enticing, competitive and effective solutions. Sapphire have been leading the way for some time now, and their latest 8GB card has been launched to supplement the more expensive Vapor X model. This new Tri-X card is equipped with 8GB of GDDR5, ships with a custom cooler and is overclocked. At £349.99 is also £70 cheaper than the Vapor X model (£419.99) – surely a more realistic asking price in today’s market.

After taking a look at the Titan X last week it really got me thinking. Currently you can pick up two GTX 980s for the price of one Titan X. That leaves me wondering how well two GTX 980s would perform in SLI compared to the Titan X. Well it just so happens I had two GTX 980’s in use in the office so I put them to the test. Today I’m going to take a quick look at their performance and see if they are a better buy than a single Titan X.
