March has just been an unreal month with the amount of launches we've seen. We saw both AMD and NVIDIA release extremely fast Dual GPU models along with NVIDIA releasing a new mid-range one. If you thought it was going to quiet down, you'd be wrong, because April is looking just as crazy with more releases from NVIDIA and AMD along with partners releasing fancy versions of popular models.

Today we are taking our second look at a HD7870 Tahiti LE card, this time from Sapphire. Our previous experiences with the HD7870 Tahiti LE have been memorable but today we wanted to show something different. We push the Sapphire card to the limit and manually overclock two competing AMD and Nvidia based ‘pre-overclocked’ solutions from HIS and MSI. Is the new Sapphire HD7870 Tahiti LE good value for money?

We overclock the HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB IceQ X2 video card with its new "iPower" improved power setup and see how it performs under our benchmark tests.

Sapphire is AMD’s larger board partner so as expected that have a pretty nice selection of AMD’s 300 series graphics cards. Sitting at the top of the 300 series is the Radeon R9 390X. This is of course a rebrand of AMD’s previous R9 290X, but with 8GB of GDDR5 memory. Also the rebrand has given AMD time to fine-tune the chip and add new features. This card is 100% DirectX 12 compliant and has AMD specific features like FreeSync, Super Virtual Resolution, and Eyefinity. Sapphire’s take on the card brings with it their Tri-X cooling solution that uses Intelligent Fan Control II technology that will turn the fans off when the GPU is not running hot and a massive 10mm heatpipe to keep things cool, 16K hours capacitors to lengthen the lifespan of the card, a dual BIOS, and the card is of course factory overclocked. Let’s jump in and see what this card can do!

Nvidia recently released the GTX660 Ti – a high performance solution aimed at the hard core gaming enthusiast user with a budget under £300. Today we are looking at the new Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti OC Windforce which is a custom cooled solution supplied at ‘out of the box’ overclocked settings.

We've been tracking AMD's HD 7730 for quite some time and now it is finally upon us. AMD's HD 7730 GPU is a cut-down version of the HD 7750 GPU and it uses a special Cape Verde LE GPU. This Cape Verde LE GPU is essentially a HD 7750 with two compute units out of eight switched off. This means the HD 7730 has 384 stream processors, 6 compute units, 24 texture units and 16 ROP units. It runs with default clocks of 800MHz on the core and 4.5GHz effective on the VRAM which is available in either 1GB of GDDR5 or 2GB of DDR3, note the 2GB DDR3 model runs at an effective memory speed of 1.8GHz. We have the 1GB GDDR5 model which despite having less frame buffer is much faster than the DDR3 equivalent because of the significantly greater memory bandwidth.
The HD 7730 is interesting because it features 384 GCN cores, much like the highest spec AMD Kaveri APU will feature when it comes out next year. So while this is a HD 7730 review, you should be able to get an idea of Kaveri's GPU performance based on this. Notably of the A10-7800K, if AMD follow the same naming pattern, as the A10-7800K will feature 384 GCN cores. The model we have here today is branded Powercolor but its pretty much as close to a reference design as you're going to get and will be one of the cheapest HD 7730s on the market. The HD 7730 will be priced in between the HD 6670 and the HD 7750. In the longer term it will phase out the ageing HD 6670. This card is totally powered by the motherboard and has a rated TDP of just 45W.

The MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr IV Gaming OC Edition is a respectable card for most PC gamers; we’ll get that out of the way right off the bat. It performs well for its price (currently ~ $240), and is more than capable of playing any game on the market at moderate to high settings in a resolution of 1920×1080. It supports up to 3 way SLI, which stands for “Scalable Link Interface” and allows for multiple Nvidia based graphics cards to be used together for increased performance.

Nvidia's GTX 760 is turning out to be a bit of a hit with gamers as it is offering a sweet spot of high end performance and high end features for a price that is much better than the previous generation. The GTX 760 is essentially a GTX 670 in terms of performance and when you bring in overclocked versions like this GTX 760 Twin Frozr Gaming Series graphics card from MSI, you get even more performance. Yet the GTX 760 is substantially more affordable than the GTX 670 was - coming in at about $250 USD instead of the $345 USD the GTX 670 went for. Pairing up Nvidia's most popular GTX 700 series GPU with MSI's increasingly popular Gaming Series of products and we have with us what will essentially be the best selling MSI Gaming series graphics card - simply because it is the most affordable and best value.
The MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr Gaming OC Edition comes overclocked out of the box by an additional 40MHz at 1020MHz base clock, up from the 980MHz default clocks. Memory is left at stock 6GHz speeds but we are told by MSI, and have seen from other reviews, that there is a tonne of overclocking potential on the memory MSI equip. The MSI GTX 760 we have here equips MSI's Twin Frozr cooler which has three 6mm heat pipes, one 8mm heat pipe and a pair of 100mm fans. There is also a tonne of other advanced features like additional VRM cooling, Super Ferrite Chokes and up to 3 way SLI support.
