Today we are going to be looking at a hybrid graphics/network card, featuring an amalgamation of technology from AMD and Bigfoot Networks. This card from VisionTek combines a 1GB HD5770 with a KillerNic 2100 to offer lower ping times with decent mainstream gaming performance.
Gainward have covered all bases and brought the - Phantom branding to the mainstream cards. This means that we get an enhanced cooler, redesigned card and in theory, better performance than the reference model... all of the benefits of the high end card at a much more affordable price. Today we have the GTX 560 Ti Phantom 2 on our test bench and will be putting it up against a selection of cards in a similar price bracket to see how it compares in real world gaming, media and GPU computing tasks.
The HAWK series is one of my favorite, and that's mainly because it sits towards the top of the chart when it comes to what you can do with a card. At the bottom of the stack you've got your reference card. From there we introduce an overclock and over that you can start to look at custom cooling. Once you get out of that area, you're into cards like the HAWK and Lightning which utilize custom PCBs. That introduces the ability to gain an even higher overclock than other models, and when combined with MSIs own overclocking software, Afterburner, we can really reach for the skies.
When I first looked at the HD 5770 FleX I was impressed that Sapphire had taken the time to acknowledge one of the biggest issues with Eyefinity and fix it. The issue we speak of is the need to have a DisplayPort monitor to make use of the technology. For some it's not an issue, especially if you're only on one monitor and you're going to buy three new ones for your setup. If you're not, though, and you already have a couple of monitors, the need for a DP enabled one is a pain.

It's been ages since we've seen NVIDIA come out with a dual GPU card, and we know the main reason for that was because the GTX 400 series, as good as the mid-range models were, the initial launch pieces ran too hot and drew too much power, making a dual GPU card not an option. The GTX 500 series fixed all the issues that the GTX 400 series had and then added more power into the mix. So that means today we get the dual GPU NVIDIA card we've wanted for ages, and it's known as the GTX 590.

March has just been an unreal month with the amount of launches we've seen. We saw both AMD and NVIDIA release extremely fast Dual GPU models along with NVIDIA releasing a new mid-range one. If you thought it was going to quiet down, you'd be wrong, because April is looking just as crazy with more releases from NVIDIA and AMD along with partners releasing fancy versions of popular models.
