From this year on, the release of each new test method will be preceded by a series of 'pilot tests' with low-performing hardware. Because that is what some benchmarks may behave strangely with. This time we'll use Intel Atom and AMD Zacate for this purpose. Along with a couple of other competitors to make things more interesting for you.
We've seen pictures of the FM1 socket, the FM1 CPUs and even the mobile test board from AMD, but what we have for you today is the first picture of AMD's FM1 desktop test board. One company who are known for their quality mobile devices are Archos and a couple of months back they announced their own up to date range of Android tablets, the 70 and 101. When AMD brought out the new 8xx series chipset they did things in an odd way. Their first release was the 890GX. This was a high-end version of the chipset, but it had an IGP (internal graphics processor) which is not normally how things work. For some reason, this has been the path that AMD has taken. Not that long after the release of the 890GX (and the later the 890FX) we are down to the 870 flavor of the chipset.
The new ASRock 870iCafe is a value, full ATX, socket AM3 motherboard based on the AMD 870 chipset that comes with six SATA-600 ports and one Gigabit Ethernet port.
ASRock makes a return to our test bench with their latest creation. This is the 880G Extreme3. The 3 stands for all of those “3” labelled options that are available now; USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0. ASRock mentions another one; this is eSATA 3.0, although I really do not know what that means. This new board also features support for up to three way Crossfire and hybrid Crossfire.
ASRock does their thing as they bring another motherboard to market with one of the latest chipsets in the 880G Extreme3 motherboard. With features features like USB 3.0, SATA3 (6 Gb/s), eSATA3 ports, onboard AMD Radeon HD 4250 graphics and CPU core unlocking technology, how does this stack up to the competition? We intend to find out as we place it against the ECS A890GXM-A motherboard!
