A couple years ago Dell released the Inspiron Duo. It featured an innovative, rotating touchscreen. It was a very interesting design, but the Atom processor it ran on was too slow. Fast-forward two years, and now Dell has come with the XPS Duo. Again called Duo, it applies the same concept: a screen mounted in the middle of a frame, which you can spin around. That enables you to use it either as a laptop or as a tablet. While its exterior does resemble the Inspiron Duo, the hardware is fortunately much better in every regard.
Designed for overclocking, usage of high grade military components and extreme durability are a few of the slogans the marketing people like to use to label a new product. The catchier the better, all of course to draw the attention of any potential buyer. Sometimes it's only the inclusion of an overclocking tool on the included driver CD that makes up for some of the bold PR claims. However for the enthusiast crowd almost each motherboard manufacturer has got a board or even an entire lineup specifically built with the highest quality components, OC friendly BIOSes and idem ditto board layouts. Sadly most of them boards retail at a steep price, as most OC designed boards are at the top of the lineup. Prices of over 350 dollars are quite common for an ATX format OC board. The Big Bang series are available already since the release of Intel's P55 chipset, MSI's range that are targeting gamers and enthusiasts. More and more companies are jumping on the mITX bandwagon with the Z77 platform, but the majority of these miniature boards lack the type of features found in their larger counterparts. Nous y voilà enfin, du haut de gamme est arrivé chez nous et ça se passera avec rien d'autre qu'une Gigabyte X79-UD3 ainsi qu'un tout gros processeur, l'Intel i7 3960x (hexacore). La carte mère est d'entrée de gamme pour le LGA 2011 mais se facture quand même 200€ au miniumum tandis que le processeur est tout simplement hors de prix ... ! Pour les mauvaises langues, cette "entrée de gamme" ne veut pas dire qu'elle est dépourvue d'options ! C'est tout le contraire, elle est très très bien équipée, et dispose aussi d'un bundle très complet. Le CPU est livré nu, sans radbox... Ironie du sort pour un processeur aussi couteux !
