The MAXIMUS VI EXTREME is the most high-end motherboard from ASUS for socket LGA1150 processors. It is based on the Z87 chipset and brings 10 SATA-600 ports, eight USB 3.0 ports, a Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac interface, and a Bluetooth 4.0 antenna. Our foray into mITX boards would be incomplete without taking a look at one of the most highly requested, most highly regarded mITX products, the ASUS MAXIMUS VI IMPACT. Users have been asking ASUS forum reps and ASUS staff for mITX ROG products for quite a few years now, and with Intel's Z87, that call was most definitely answered, and answered loudly.
Implementing all of the extra features that belong on an RoG board on a compact Mini ITX board was a challenge, and ASUS had to come up with some clever solutions. The components for the CPU power supply, for example, have been put on a vertical PCB, and the SupremeFX sound card is also located on a separate PCB (which benefited the audio quality). Extra features such as a debug HEX display were also put on an extra little PCB between the I/O connectors. ASUS definitely achieved squeezing a large amount of features onto very little surface area.
