As part of the ROG series, the ASUS Maximus V Formula ThunderFX comes absolutely loaded for the most complete gaming and enthusiast experience possible. The ASUS Maximus V Formula leaves no aspect overlooked with the highest quality onboard components seen on a motherboard, and an audiophile class outboard sound card with headphone amp and multiple platform capabilities. At the heart of the Formula is the Z77 chipset, offering two each SATA 6G and 3G and four USB 3.0, with an ASMedia controller adding four additional SATA6G and USB 3.0 headers. The 8-Phase Extreme Digi II+ VRM gets a hybrid heatsink with heatpipe and liquid cooling capabilities to keep the board running cool. To further help this along, the Formula’s extremely rigid PCB is slightly oversized, allowing for better component spacing and heat dissipation. The Formula is 2-way SLI and 3-way CrossfireX ready, with PCIe slots spaced in order to give your multiple cards extra airflow. Should you be using the ThunderFX elsewhere, the Formula’s Supreme FX IV uses hyper-grounding along with audio specific ELNA caps to provide the best onboard audio that we have heard to date. The included mPCIe combo card comes with dual band WiFi/Bluetooth 4.0 preinstalled, and is ready to accept an mSATA component in the second slot. Rounding out the connectivity is an Intel Gigabyte LAN built onboard.

ASUS’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) products cater to gamers and hardware enthusiasts. Many of these same people attend LAN parties. No want wants to lug a huge system to a LAN party, it just is not fun. That is one of the reasons why ASUS has a “Gene” line of motherboards. These are micro ATX boards that are perfect for building a great LAN or small for factor system. Many people think micro ATX boards lack many features that normal ATX boards have, but the board we are taking a look at today is a ROG board. That is just the tip of the iceberg there are so many features in this board you won’t believe it is only a micro ATX board! Read on as we take a look...
