The MSI Z87-G43 motherboard is motherboard targeted at budget conscious individuals looking for a quality system board. The Z87-G43 comes with a wealth of features that are often pegged as being for mainstream or enthusiast level boards. These features include the UEFI Click BIOS 4, Military Class 4 components, 4K Display support, and multiple display outputs. Awhile the MSI Z87-G43 board is considered a budget board, the Military Class 4 components that the board is built with offer EMI, ESD, Humidity, and High temperatures protection. These components include super ferrite chokes and solid caps. There is one PCI-e 3.0 x16 slot to provide the fastest PCI-e interface currently available. There is also the Command Center which allows tweaking of system settings without entering the BIOS for RAID, and RAMDisk capability.

Panther Point, the Z77 chipset, launched simultaneously with the brand new Intel Ivy Bridge CPU's. Supporting PCI-3.0, native USB3.0, high BCLK and RAM frequencies, but only if bundled with one of Intel's 3d generation CPU's. As usual, vendors launched a wide variety of boards, from low end basic OEM boards to high end gamer/overclocking versions. Choosing the right board is mainly always a matter of features, gimmicks, color schemes and surely the price tag. Today we review two of Gigabyte's offerings: the mainstream targeted GA Z77-D3H and the high end model, the GA Z77X-UD5H.

I've sometimes thought that Intel tries too hard with its enthusiast level motherboards. The Extreme series, which is what Intel seeds reviewers with when new CPUs are introduced, tend to "shout" with prominent skull logos, POST code readouts, POST sequence LEDs, and other bling, but in my experience they fall down badly on features and performance. So you can understand that I wasn't expecting too much from the DZ77GA-70K motherboard. But I was in for a surprise.

Intel has tried to sell motherboards into the enthusiast market in the past, with little success. Even though their top-end motherboards are labeled Extreme Boards and have prominent skull logos (everyone knows skulls are good), the features and performance have been notably lacking, especially in comparison to the best of the third party motherboards. I've not been impressed by any of the previous Intel Extreme Boards I've reviewed, but the Intel DZ77GA-70K was a revelation. Benchmark Reviews takes a look at the features of Intel's first motherboard that's actually competitive with the big boys.
