Not all that long ago ASUS was looking for a name to put on their top-of-the-line products. They sent out an e-mail to journalists, enthusiasts and customers (some of which fell into all three groups) asking what we thought this name should be. The overwhelming choice was Republic of Gamers. To be honest with you, it was the only real choice (the other one was bad enough that I do not even remember it). From that day forward, if a product had the ROG logo on it you knew you were getting a top notch piece of hardware.
When Intel launched the Lynnfield CPU and the P55 chipset, it was just as the specifications for SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 were being finalized. Too much was in the works to change the chipset and to integrate SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 (not that we can do that yet anyway). This left Intel behind in terms of getting SATA 3.0 to the market. Companies like ASUS, GIGABYTE and MSI were forced to work with Marvell and NEC to bring this to the table. However, in almost all cases you ended up with a pair of SATA 3.0 ports and a pair of USB 3.0 ports. With AMD based boards (at least at the 890 level) you can get up to six SATA 3.0 ports for your HDD enjoyment.

Letzte Woche hatten wir mit dem ASUS M4A78T-E ein ordentlich ausgestattetes Mainboard für AMDs Sockel AM3-Prozessoren präsentiert, welches auf dem AMD 790GX Chipsatz basiert. Doch ambitionierten Spielern werden 16 PCI-Express 2.0 Lanes, die sich auf maximal zwei Grafikkarten verteilen lassen, kaum ausreichen. Für diese Zielgruppe dürfte das MSI 790FX GD70 eine vielversprechendere Grundlage sein, da es auf AMDs Premium-Chipsatz 790FX aufbaut und bis zu vier Grafikkarten beherbergen kann.
We probably shouldn't expect much from ECS P55H-A. On the other hand, who cares about manufacturer profitability and ambitions while it produces quality, adequately priced solutions with decent features. Inexpensive models are the bulk of sales after all. Let's see whether ECS P55H-A is attractive enough.
