For those familiar with the Gigabyte line up you'll realize the UD4 is a mainstream motherboard designed for power users who want a little more from their system but don't need many of the other features included in the higher-end product offerings.
The Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H is outfitted with impressive high-end features at a mainstream price. The Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H utilizes Ultra Durable 5 Plus technology, including the use of 10K solid Japanese capacitors, 2x Copper PCB, gold plated CPU brushes, ESD protection on USB and Ethernet ports with one fuse per port design, as well as International Rectifier PWM controllers and PowIRstage ICs. Unlike other mainstream Z87 mainboards, the Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H has a total of ten USB 3.0 ports for unprecedented connective flexibility and also implements On/Off Charge 2 technology for rapid mobile device charging. Users who want to tune their system performance further will find the quick onboard buttons handy, including voltage read-out points, digital debug display, OC PEG, clear CMOS button, dual BIOS switch, as well as onboard power and reset buttons.
When Intel launched their new range of Haswell processors at the start of June we reviewed a handful of new Z87 motherboards, including the high end Asus Sabertooth priced around the £200 mark. Not everyone can afford a £200 motherboard, so today we look at the budget Asus Z87-K motherboard priced around the £100 sweet spot. Can an inexpensive Z87 board really keep a discerning enthusiast user happy?
Right now we can all pick up our own ASUS Z87-Pro LGA1150 motherboard for $199.00 shipped. When you consider that this board was able to go head to head with the ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus VI Hero in most all of our tests today you know this is a great board...
You may remember with Asus, they had a range of motherboards branded as their core series which consisted of Pro, LX, LK, V, V-Pro, Deluxe and so forth. This has now had a complete overhaul with a new design and new naming system. There is a large selection within this range, but it is worth noting that these will be region specific, so that the consumer may not be able to get their board of choice, depending on their territory.
Within this range we find lots of different models with a slight rename, including Z87-C, Pro, Plus and even a mini-ITX offering known as the Z87i-Deluxe. The board we have with us today is the Z87-C which isn't quite the lowest-end board, but does sit towards that end of the scale.
The first most noticeable thing that you will find is that the colour scheme has completely changed from the black/blue combo to a brown/gold/yellow trio, which being honest I'm a bit weary of. I was never a massive fan when ECS had their golden boards, and Asus seems to have taken a leaf out of their book, though they have made it a bit more subtle which is nice to see, but I can honestly say that I think these boards will have to differ regionally as I don't think the gold colour scheme will be welcomed everywhere, especially in Western cultures.
So before we get straight into the performance side of things, we have a few other things to do first, which includes looking at the box and included accessories. After we've done that, we can take a detailed look around the board and what it has to offer in terms of design and features, especially with the new Z87 chipset at the heart of it. Once we've got this out of the way, we can start looking at stock performance as well as overclockability and how far our Haswell i7 4770k can be pushed on this budget/mainstream board.

We check out another Z87 motherboard; this time it's part of the MPOWER series from MSI. It comes loaded with lots of features and at a good price.
It wasn't that long ago that MSI released a new range of products to the market, branded under MPOWER and with the release of the Z87 chipset from Intel and 4th generation CPUs, it's only right that the MPOWER range gets a new addition, and of course it is simply called the Z87 MPOWER and features the same bright yellow colour scheme that reminds me of Bumblebee from the Transformers.
The theme is also being used on the Lightning range of VGA cards from MSI and memory manufacturer Avexir have worked hard with them to produce matching memory, so that you can have a nice system that matches with all other components, much like they've done with the gaming series of boards that we also looked at quite recently.
The MPOWER series isn't quite the top-end as that is where XPOWER comes in, but with the Z87 XPOWER delayed until after launch, the MPOWER range is taking the launch as its flagship and today we are ready to see what it can do and what it has to offer, especially as I'm a BMW owner and the word MPOWER purely sings to my emotions.
The MPOWER series of boards cater for many different customers with an onus on stability and overclockability, and we're sure that this won't disappoint, especially from what we've seen MSI do with the MPOWER series so far. So lets find out if it can give us the performance that we crave, as well as give a full feature set that will keep gamers, general consumers and overclockers all happy.
First things first, we need to take a look at the box and what comes included in terms of added extras and accessories. After, we can take a detailed look at the board itself and what feature set it has including the BIOS and how things have improved with the new Z87 chipset from Intel. Once all of that is out of the way, we can focus on the stock performance, seeing how far we can overclock the CPU and how the performance looks once we've pushed it to the limits, so what are we waiting for?
