When it comes to performance the MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming motherboard didn't disappoint. We ran the synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark, as well as the real world gaming in Battlefield 3 where we use fraps. Not once were we let down with the scores or gaming experience while playing through the levels. While looking at the peripherals like Audio performance, SATA III 6Gbps performance, and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 performance everything was right where we would expect to find it. As we prepare for the launch of Haswell, we quickly move through a couple of Z77 boards. Today we're spending time with the Z77A-GD65 Gaming Series from MSI.
The main difference with the standard Z77A-GD65 is the Killer E2205 network chip. In our most recent large group test the GD65 already earned the Hardware.Info Silver Award in the category 'deluxe, but still affordable'. And like the Z77A-GD65, the new Gaming board made an excellent impression. However, the limited number of new features don't justify the higher price in our opinion. If you really want a KillerNic network card, then you should go for this MSI gaming motherboard, because it's a lot cheaper than the Gigabyte's special gaming Z77-board with the same chip.

Today we are going to look at the MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming motherboard. It’s MSI’s latest model, targeted at the enthusiast audience, more specifically enthusiast gamers. It boasts an impressive feature set which is specifically tailored for those gamers who want the best possible performance from their system.
Whilst at CeBIT earlier in the year, I swung by the MSI booth to see what products they had to show off to the world. Now for most people that attended the show, being able to look around MSI's booth was not going to be possible as they were situated in an area that was out of bounds to the general public, meaning that only those associated with the industry, like us at eTeknix, could have a look. Whilst on their stand, there was something that caught the eye and in some respect looked a little odd. Typically when we see MSI motherboards from a glance we expect to see the blue or yellow highlighting that appears on their boards, however one cabinet housed something different and in some respects a little bit special.
