The Fatal1ty B85 Killer is a mid-range motherboard for socket LGA1150 processors, based on the Intel B85 chipset. As with other motherboards of the Fatal1ty Killer series, it brings a high-end audio codec and an Ethernet interface. Let’s take a good look at it.

Our foray into mITX boards would be incomplete without taking a look at one of the most highly requested, most highly regarded mITX products, the ASUS MAXIMUS VI IMPACT. Users have been asking ASUS forum reps and ASUS staff for mITX ROG products for quite a few years now, and with Intel's Z87, that call was most definitely answered, and answered loudly.

MSI received great critical and public acclaim with its Gaming range of motherboards, based on Intel’s 8-series chipsets. Aiming to repeat that success with Intel’s new 9-series chipsets, we analyse MSI’s Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard to see if it can set off where its predecessors left.

Intel’s Z97 chipset has launched and TUF series motherboards are part of the Asus welcoming party. Sporting the new Intel chipset and old TUF features that have made previous generation Sabertooth boards lucrative components, we put Asus’ Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 in the firing line of our critical analysis.
Do Thermal Armor and military-standard component testing have a place in the consumer market?

So for some time now we have known that the next generation Intel chipset was on the way and today it properly launches under the Z97 branding. We have three boards to run through our performance tests today, all with completely different approaches to Z97 and they are Gigabytes Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK, the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 and the Maximus VII Hero from ASUS.

This beautiful looking creation from MSI is our second Z97 motherboard review for this launch day, in addition to the ASUS Z97-A we recently checked out. In contrast to the entry level ASUS Z97-A, the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 jumps straight to the other end of the spectrum and this is a really high end creation aimed specifically at meeting the needs of modern gamers. The MSI Z97 Gaming 7 has all the trademark styling of the MSI Gaming Series as well as the trademark features of a gaming motherboard: a dedicated high performance Gigabit NIC, a custom audio implementation and adequate room for plenty of GPUs to maximise those frame rates. The MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard has a boatload of features: a 12 phase VRM, 8 SATA III ports, support for up to 3 way CrossFire, advanced ALC 1150 Realtek audio and a Killer E2205 Gigabit NIC. Those features mean this motherboard is sure to appeal to a large audience in the same way MSI’s Gaming Series graphics cards have done. With all that said you might expect the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 to be a pricey option, but at just $190 or £140 this is probably the cheapest flagship gaming motherboard I’ve ever seen…so let’s see what it has to offer!

Typically, Intel keeps their chipset launches timed with new CPUs but todays (official) launch of the Z997 chipset does not come with shiny new silicon from Intel. There are rumors of launch days for a Haswell refresh but as of now, there isn’t anything official. Even without new CPUs we can still take a look at the latest in motherboards. To start things off, today I will be taking a look at MSI’s Z97 Gaming 5. With their new naming scheme we can tell right away that this is a gaming motherboard (of course) and the 5 is their entry level full ATX board with a 7 and a 9 that will round out the line. I’m excited to see what has changed and what remained the same!

Yesterday Intel introduced its new processors which are a refresh of the current Haswell chips. Along with these new processors two new motherboard chipsets are being introduced, the H97 and the Z97. For many of the motherboard manufacturers this is the time to introduce their new motherboards to replace the current H87 and Z87 based models. We compared no less than 19 boards from ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI.
