Today we are taking a look at the latest ‘Pure Black’ X79N motherboard from Sapphire, based around Intel’s enthusiast X79 platform (LGA2011). We have reviewed many Sapphire motherboards in the past and have admired their build quality and overall level of performance, even if their bios configurations have been lagging a little behind industry leaders such as ASUS. We are pairing this motherboard up with Sapphire’s high end AMD HD7970.
Sapphire is the first to utilize AMD's E350 (Zacate) APU - a combination of CPU and GPU computing technologies onto a single die, and AMD's answer to Intel's Sandy Bridge graphics integration. With the first Sapphire motherboard we looked at, we found ourselves really impressed with it. The X58 offering we tested performed well and offered great overclocking potential. When we got the P67 offering from them it was a good board as well, but in such a competitive market we found it just didn't really stand out from the competition. Today, though, we look at their latest offering and it comes in the form of the Sapphire Pure Platinum A75. And as you can tell, it's of course based on the latest AMD chipset, the A75, which holds the Lynx APU that we've quickly grown to love.
Sapphire are a brand that we all know and love for producing some of the most extreme video cards on the market and push the boundaries in terms of cooling and performance.
