2010 is shaping up to be a fun year for me. Some of the hardware that is available is staggering. Rich in features, easy to use and quality components; which brings us to the motherboard that we will be looking at today, GIGABYTEs new top of the line GA-X58A-UD9.
In order to capitalise on Windows 7s improved performance on lower specification machines, Nvidia have recently released the ION platform, which includes the Intel Atom processor and a GeForce 9400M graphics based MCP79 chipset. The ION is fully DirectX 10 compatible, something that Windows XP can’t support, and this would be something that Microsoft and Nvidia will be using to help push Windows 7 netbook sales.

VR-Zone now provides you a glimpse of the Nvidia reference design of their nettop platform based on the MCP79 chipset. This chipset is single chip package and contains MCH, GPU and ICH functionalities so as to remove the needs for cables and offer more IO capabilities than the current Pico standard. This nettop has a 10-layer Pico ITX based motherboard that supports single core Atom 230 or dual core Atom 330, one SO-DIMM slot single channel for DDR3-800/1066/1333 memory, one DVI-I, Gigabit LAN, one USB 2.0 port and one SATA port.

For good or bad Summer is finally here which would explain why all of our 4 test rigs have begun heating up a lot more during these past few days as would the fact that i can't seem to be able to stay in front of our 800W photo bench for more than 20 minutes at a time. I just got off a conference call with Intel and it looks like they got a mess on their hands right now. Intel had a design oversight with one of the metal layers of their 6 series chipset, so they need a re-spin of the silicon to fix the issue. This issue is on all 'Cougar Town' 6 series chipsets and Intel said that slightly less than 8 million of these chipsets have already been made. All of those chipsets have Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets that may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives...
Auch wenn die Z170 Mainboards voll im durchstarten sind, verlieren ältere Z97 Boards nicht an Interesse. Gerade im Gegenteil, die Preise für die älteren Boards sind so niedrig, dass man da nicht widerstehen kann. Wir haben wieder ein Schwarz/Weiß Projekt am Laufen und haben dafür ein passendes Mainboard gesucht. Da gibt es leider nicht so viel Auswahl.
