Are you on the market for a Socket 2011 motherboard with loads of features and USB 3.1? Take a look at the ASRock X99 Extreme6/3.1.

Let's take a look at the X99 Extreme6/3.1, a top mid-range socket LGA2011-v3 motherboard from ASRock with a high-end audio controller, ten SATA-600 ports, and three USB 3.1 ports.

ASRock has released eight motherboard models for the new socket 2011 platform, heavily betting that this platform will become more mainstream after Intel releases cheaper LGA2011 processors during this year. This time we will take a look at the X79 Fatal1ty Professional, with four PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, six SATA-600 ports, eight USB 3.0 ports, and a special USB port with high polling rate for gaming mice.

I had never really used ASRock boards in the past, on a personal level, and only being in charge of motherboard reviews saw me having a glance at their potential. After looking at their Z68 boards, I instantly knew they had something special going on. X79 confirmed this, when we looked at the X79 Extreme4 which was one of the best looking boards that had passed through my hands. It also showed great performance and utilised the new X79 structure in terms of benchmarking, overclocking and a nice, easy to use UEFI BIOS.

ASRock have been releasing a wide range of quality motherboards in the last year and can now firmly be recognised as one of the major players in the industry. Today we are looking at their top of the line X79 motherboard, entitled the ‘Extreme 9′. This board is fully loaded and is marketed to compete against flagship products from companies such as Asus, MSI and Gigabyte. We are testing today with the Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition processor, 16GB of 2,133mhz memory and Nvidia GTX590 running in a Quad SLI configuration.

ASRock has released seven motherboard models for the new socket 2011 platform, heavily betting that this platform will become more mainstream after Intel releases cheaper LGA2011 processors during this year. This time we will take a look at the X79 Extreme9, which is the most high-end (and most expensive) socket 2011 motherboard offered by ASRock at this time, with five PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, eight SATA-600 ports, eight USB 3.0 ports, and a high-end, add-on sound card called "Game Blaster".

CPUs like the i7-3960X sit at the top of Intel's product stack and if we are looking to build a top of the range system based around that CPU we need a quality board to maximise our features and performance. ASRock aim to deliver this with their X79 Extreme9 and today it is on our test bench as we put it through a selection of real world and synthetic tests. Can it offer as much as the newer Z77 boards, or maybe even more? Let's find out.
