Today HardwareHeaven are going to look at the ultra-small Cape 7 ION PC which uses a single-core ATOM processor alongside its NVIDIA GPU and packs it all into the most compact system they have tested to date.
Motherboards
Motherboards supporting DDR2 memory are in limited demand these days. On the other hand, modern Athlon II and Phenom II CPUs are still backward-compatible with this memory as well. Consider this MSI 790XT-G45, if this is important for you.

ASUS had a huge setup at CES, displaying both consumer electronics such as laptops and netbooks as well as individual components like graphics cards and motherboards. We were naturally more interested in the component side of things and were given a full tour of their new and upcoming products. One of the motherboards we looked at was the P7P55D-E Premium, a P55 Express chipset board with a wealth of features including SATA 6.0 Gb/s support. Today we will be looking at the Deluxe version of this board that includes native USB 3.0 support as well as a few other differences.

There's more to ASUS' P7P55D-E Pro motherboard than just high bandwidth connections. Gamers will be pleased to hear that the P7P55D-E Pro supports dual videocard SLI/Crossfire gaming configurations in a x8/x8 PCI Express 2.0 arrangement, or a single videocard in x16 mode. ATI and NVIDIA both have competing multi GPU videocards, so the P7P55D-E Pro's support for quad GPU gaming means this motherboard can be turned into a real graphics powerhouse.

Back in the early days of the slot A Athlons, there was only one company that you could trust for both performance and stability. It was not ASUS, it was not GIGABYTE; it was MSI. Their boards were quite simply ahead of the game. When the Gold Finger devices came out, again MSI was at the front of the others in support for advanced cooling and a few other features. But, after that MSI sort of went into hiding. Their products dropped in quality and even in prevalence on the market.

Although not usually covered by the enthusiast media, ASUS has a great line up of Workstation boards that have just as many features (including overclocking) as their non-professional line up. We have taken a look at one of these before; the P7P55 WS SuperComputer and it was a fast board.

ASRock makes a return to our test bench with their latest creation. This is the 880G Extreme3. The 3 stands for all of those “3” labelled options that are available now; USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0. ASRock mentions another one; this is eSATA 3.0, although I really do not know what that means. This new board also features support for up to three way Crossfire and hybrid Crossfire.

Without a doubt, this is a worthy representative of the AMD 890GX family. It has everything you need for an all-round configuration. And it's actually quite hard to name a specific target audience that could be more interested in ASRock 890GX Extreme3, especially considering its attractive price.
