Intel's Haswell CPU's and Z87 motherboards may well be just around the corner, but that hasn't stopped MSI from releasing another line of Z77 motherboards. With this new line of motherboards MSI are aiming at the gaming scene, and have a bold new color scheme and heatsink design to match. We are used to seeing either yellow or blue theme motherboards from MSI but this new 'gaming' line-up breaks that mould. Benchmark Reviews takes a look at the mid range MSI Z77A-G45 GAMING LGA1155 Motherboard (P/N 911-7752-19S) in this article. The MSI Z77A-G45 GAMING motherboard supports 3rd Gen & 2nd Gen Intel CPU's designed for the LGA115x socket, and DDR3 speeds up to 3000MHz (OC). Not much separates motherboards with the same chipset these days, so extras like a KILLER E2200 NIC, Creative Sound Blaster Cinema sound and PCI Express Gen 3 expansion slots aim to make sure you have a high quality experience with this latest offering from MSI.
The MSI Z77A-G45 Gaming motherboard is a standard ATX form factor board and supports the newest Ivy Bridge processors and Sandy Bridge. The Z77A-G45 Gaming board is targeted at people who are looking for high end features at a mainstream price point. MSI has included solid cap capacitors and super ferrite core chokes in the design and gives it a military class III rating. The higher quality components used to build the board allow it to achieve solid overclocks and resist deterioration. MSI designed the Z77A-G45 Gaming board to provide an excellent all around experience, there is extra space between the PCI-E 3.0 slots to provide airflow between video cards, DDR 3000 support, a Killer E2205 NIC card built in, as well as the Sound Blaster Cinema audio system. All these features provide for an excellent gaming experience. A UEFI BIOS is included with the MSI Click BIOS II interface and OC Genie II overclocking utility.
One of the first manufacturers to demonstrate a board based on Intel's latest chipset is MSI and we have their mainstream and enthusiast orientated Z77A-GD55 on our test bench today. We will take a detailed look at the performance, including multi-GPU 7900 series gaming, USB 3.0, PCIe, SATA 3.0 and overclocking to find out how it compares with the Z68.
If you're looking for a good Z77 motherboard to pair up with that shiny Ivy Bridge CPU but don't want to break the bank, MSI's Z77A-GD55 is well worth a look. Despite its modest $165 price-tag, the GD55 offers a rich feature-set, looks good, has a robust EFI and even makes overclocking easy for those who don't care for the manual route.

Einige unserer Leser werden sich sicherlich fragen, warum wir den Test des MSI Z77A-GD65 erst heute veröffentlichen. Schließlich stand diese Hauptplatine zusammen mit etlichen Artgenossen bereits Ende März in den Regalen zahlreicher Händler. Dennoch ließ sich Intel nicht erweichen und hielt an seiner Sperrfrist für die Presse fest. Diese Situation ist zwar recht unglücklich, doch wir halten uns an die vorgegebenen Spielregeln. Und soviel vorweg: Das Warten hat sich gelohnt! Wer ein leistungsstarkes Motherboard für einen aktuellen Sandy-Bridge-Prozessor oder die kommenden Ivy-Bridge-Modelle sucht, sollte sich das MSI Z77A-GD65 auf jeden Fall ansehen.
Whilst at CeBIT earlier in the year, I swung by the MSI booth to see what products they had to show off to the world. Now for most people that attended the show, being able to look around MSI's booth was not going to be possible as they were situated in an area that was out of bounds to the general public, meaning that only those associated with the industry, like us at eTeknix, could have a look. Whilst on their stand, there was something that caught the eye and in some respect looked a little odd. Typically when we see MSI motherboards from a glance we expect to see the blue or yellow highlighting that appears on their boards, however one cabinet housed something different and in some respects a little bit special.
