Manufacturers have been hard at work creating products based on the ION and today we have two different approaches on our test bench. The first is from ASRock and is a full prebuilt system and the second, from Zotac, is a motherboard/CPU combination which allows the end user to build a machine to their specifications. Today we will be looking at the pros and cons of both to find out which is best.
In this sneak preview, we're looking at the upcoming P-55-UD5 motherboard from Gigabyte. The board is said to be one of the better choices in the P-55 class and is meant for the Intel i5 CPU's, who uses the Lynnfield architecture and therefore can't be used with the existing X58 motherboards for Intel i7 CPU's. This is because of a new socket type, named LGA 1156, and as the name states it has less pins available than the socket used for Intel i7 CPU's, meaning that the performance will never reach the i7's that have more memory bandwidth.
ASUS launched nothing less than nine different socket 1156 motherboard models based on the new Intel P55 chipset. Today we are going to take a look on one that is currently being sold on the USD 170 range, called P7P55D PRO, which has lots of unique features and includes support for SLI.

In times where more flash and bright colors have been added to motherboard designs it is nice to see that one company is embracing clean design ideas.
MSI P55M-GD45 has all the necessary features, even offering additional support for a number of older technologies. Owners of compact PC enclosures who don't intend overclocking, may consider this model as a good deal.
