Gigabyte's flagship GA-P55-UD6 motherboard has just been ousted from its position as the company's top Intel P55 Express-based platform! What could Gigabyte possibly replace this motherboard with... but itself? Meet the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD6, a special revision of the original P55-UD6 motherboard that adds next generation features to Gigabyte's already double-stuffed flagship motherboard.

We have had more than a few ASRock board in the lab. We have even had the folks from ASRock stop by to talk to us about their products. So it comes as no surprise that ASRock has been one of the ones to send out their IGP carrying AM3 boards that are claiming full support for the Phenom II X6. As we have found out, though, not all boards that support the X6 can do so with style.

The AMD 880G Northbridge and SB850 Southbridge are two of the latest bits of chipset silicon designed to bolster AMD's position in the mainstream PC market. They were released about a month apart this Spring, as part of a full line of 800-series chips, and ASUS wasted no time putting them into production. Key items that help make the M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard stand out are native support for SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0, and AMD's latest game changer, the Phenom II X6 CPU. With both Core Unlocker and Turbo Unlocker functionality built right into the board, this combination could be the magic ticket to dynamic-clocked, quad core processing on the cheap. Benchmark Reviews is pleased to review one of the latest ASUS motherboards, using the latest entries from AMD's new 800-series chipset.

It was a few months ago that we reviewed the MSI 890GXM-G65 micro-ATX AM3 motherboard, and while the 890GX was the first of AMD's newest chipsets to be released this year, it was far from the last. The latest to join the 800-series lineup are the 880G and 870 mainstream boards, as well as the flagship 890FX. MSI's implementation of the 890FX chipset offers many of the same features that the 890GXM does, such as their Heatpipe Thermal Design, Military Class Components, OC Genie Technology, 140W CPU Support and Active Phase Switching for better power efficiency. Even so, they've reserved a few special features just for their flagship model, like DrMOS for superior power handling capability, improved Military Class Components, Unlock CPU Core support, Real Time OC Dial and Winki, a Linux-based instant-on OS.

If you've been holding out for AMD's latest chipset and its 42 lovely lanes of aggregate PCI Express 2.0 bandwidth, this may just be the budget-oriented motherboard you've been searching for. Meet the Biostar TA890FXE motherboard, an AMD 890FX platform that eschews tons of frilly extra's for a core feature set and competitive sticker price. Naturally overclocking friendly, Biostar have added core unlocking into the BIOS on this board so up to five cores may be unlocked from certain AMD triple or quad-core CPU models. The usual overclocking caveats apply in full force, or course, but if you do your research and pick up the right chip, this motherboard has the tools to enable you to unlock all working cores. About the only feature the Biostar TA890FXE motherboard skimps on is USB 3.0 - it just doesn't have it.

ASRock makes a return to our test bench with their latest creation. This is the 880G Extreme3. The 3 stands for all of those “3” labelled options that are available now; USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0. ASRock mentions another one; this is eSATA 3.0, although I really do not know what that means. This new board also features support for up to three way Crossfire and hybrid Crossfire.

Let’s take a in-depth look on this low-end socket AM2+ motherboard supporting both DDR2 and DDR3 memories that ASRock will be releasing soon.

ASRock has redesigned their "old" P55 series to include SATA III and USB 3.0 and this way they made them future proof, at least in terms of connectivity; the performance of the P55 Deluxe3 board is decent and has no problem at all reaching 4GHz with an i5 750 CPU.
