The Black Dragon PC3-17000 2133MHz C10 16GB is a high-end memory kit from GeIL which does not feature heatspreaders, has been tested in the proprietary DBT process for maximum reliability and are a delight when installed in cases with plexiglass side windows, thanks to the burning eyes and dragon design on the laterals.

As expected the recent introduction of the very good (yet mainstream) Z77 based solutions and CPUs by Intel really changed nothing in the market (in terms of performance) and so X79 based solutions are still at the top of the food chain (although far from perfect). Now as most of you know we upgraded our main test rig to the LGA2011 (X79) with a brand new 2nd generation Intel Core i7 3930k and so because of that we will be focused on Quad Channel memory kits in 2012 (perhaps in 2013 as well if nothing better comes along). Today with us we have one such kit and more specifically the latest Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR3 1600MHz (BLE4KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0) by Crucial.

Samsung are well known as manufacturers of consumer televisions, laptops and other electronics. Samsung’s SSDs have been gathering traction and some rave reviews across the industry, and also picking up steam are Samsung’s offerings to the memory sector. Available in 2GB or 4GB DIMMs, with kits available for 4GB, 8GB and in some locations, 16GB, Samsung have something available for every user. Rated at 1600Mhz at only 1.35v, the kit is designed to fit into the low voltage/green market segment. With stock timings of 11-11-11-28, these kits aren’t aimed at the performance consumer.. but knowing that these DIMMs also support higher voltages, lets see how far we can push them, shall we?

A while back Kingston introduced their brand new Hyper X gaming RAMs to the world, baptized the Predator series. The most obvious visual change is the redesign of the heatspreader. The Predator heatspreader is a bit lower and more refined then the aging blue Hyper X heatspreader. Biggest internal change however is the support for higher speeds and tighter timings out of the box. Kingston had to react to the competitors products. The insane memory speeds that Intel's latest 3rd generation Ivy Bridge support, were way higher then what Kingston had on offer. Today we look at the Hyper X Predator 2400MHz C11 8GB Dual Channel kit, optimized for the Z77 platform.

When it comes to choosing memory for a new system we have many choices. From the high-end with crazy heatspreaders and LED lights to the plain-jane green modules without any heatspreaders. Corsair has always been on my list when recommending memory, especially for the high-end. Previously Corsair’s high-end offering was their Dominator GT line, which were great and were very popular. Corsair is back with a brand new line called their Dominator Platinum. The Dominator Platinum modules are built using only select memory ICs, highly-screened for performance and stability and feature a new industrial design and LED lighting effects. These have to be some of the best looking modules I have seen all year! But how do they perform? Read on to find out!

The G.Skill Trident X lineup is currently their flagship memory product and is designed for the 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors and Z77 platform. Designing the memory to run with current gen Intel processors such as the 3770K, G.Skill is able to dial up the frequency all the way to 2800MHz for extreme performance.

Not that long ago Kingston announced a new entry into their HyperX line, Beast. The Beast memory kits are designed for users who want the largest capacity memory available, but still want that performance memory speed and quality. HyperX Beast is part of the Predator line so it is made for both power users and enthusiasts. As I said these kits are for people who want large capacities so the lowest capacity kit available is 16GB. Kingston was nice enough to send us the “big boy” of the line which is the KHX21C11T3FK8/64X kit. This a 64GB (8x8GB) kit running at 2133MHz with timings of 11-12-11 at 1.65v. So let’s get started!

In our most recent test of RAM modules we mentioned that 16 GB is becoming the standard for many of our readers. Adata sent us two 16GB DDR3 kits from their deluxe XPG series, aimed at gamers and overclockers. The XPG 16GB DDR3-1600 CL11 kit is specs-wise a dime-a-dozen product, but we mean that in a good way. DDR3-1600 currently dominates the market, and with the XPG DDR3-2133 CL10 Adata wants to compete with Corsair, Kingston and G.Skills in the high-end segment.
