With Sandybridge systems picking up sales momentum, many enthusiast users are considering a complete upgrade. There are a wide variety of manufacturers selling quality DDR3 memory kits and with current pricing, there really is no better time to buy. Purchasing a 4GB kit is certainly the cheapest option, but if you have greater multitasking demands and want peace of mind for the future then a 8GB kit could be a wise choice.

At the latest MSI MOA Benelux qualifier we were allowed to play with MSI's Xpower board, some 980X ES CPUs and some pretty high specced Kingston rams. The 2250Mhz CL9 triple channel kit seemed very interesting for a spin in the Madshrimps Lab. Could these blue beauties come close to the almighty Corsair Hyper IC based GTX2s ? What's the use for such a high MHz kit for a daily user ? Is this kit Bloomfield friendly ? A lot of questions warped through my brain. Time to open the box and find some answers

Corsair is a well-known name within the memory market and although they have diversified in recent years their main focuses is still memory. Their most recent addition to their arsenal line is the Vengeance which fits in-between their XMS and Dominator lines of RAM. Benchmark Reviews will be looking at the Corsair Vengeance 1866Mhz 9-10-9-28 CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9 kit which is perfect for Sandy Bridge systems which require memory speeds to be divisible by 266.66 MHz in order to run at their rated speeds. Since prices have for high performance DDR3 have plummeted in the recent years this kit is priced at only $104.99 compared to the comparable Dominators $169.99 price. Benchmark Reviews will see if corners were cut to reach this price or if Vengeance is the frugal enthusiast best friend.

Today we're checking out a Dual Channel kit from the team at Patriot which falls under the Viper Xtreme series. This is one of my favourite series because the heatsink quality is one of the best on the market, and while we're not 100% sure how useful heatsinks are these days, people don't want to buy RAM without them, and who can blame them? We're all shallow.

We keep seeing new memory manufacturers come into the market though from time to time, some pop up who have been developed for quite some time, but just need that extra push to get their name out there in the big, bad world.

Checking out the EVO CORSA kit, you can see that the look of the module is quite different to what we're used to seeing with quite a different looking heatsink that comes in a Metallic Green finish. I've never been the biggest fan of the color green, but to be honest with more and more companies using it, the color is beginning to grow on me. The Metallic finish that GeIL has gone for here as well looks pretty good.

With the introduction of Intel's X79 Express chipset, enthusiasts must now consider quad-channel memory kits, and vendors like Kingston are rushing to assert themselves in this new market. This 1600MHz, 16GB kit runs fairly relaxed timings of 9-9-9-27 and at under $100 represents the lower end of Kingston's "HyperX" line of enthusiast memory. Benchmark Reviews tests it against lower-latency 1600MHz kits as well as Kingston's own ultra-high performance 2133MHz kit in this review.
