The kit we're looking at today is part of the new Division 4 series which refers to being a Quad Channel kit in the way the Division 2 referred to Dual Channel kits. At the same time, it's a part of the Viper Xtreme series and I've said it so many times; when it comes to the heatsink side of things, this is one of the best quality heatsinks when it comes to RAM.

The other day we looked at the new Corsair Dominator GTX8 8GB kit and we found ourselves really impressed with what Corsair was offering us. The problem with this kit is that to achieve 2400MHz DDR, you need a CPU that's able to offer that kind of speed and as we mentioned in that review, out of the three 3960X CPUs we had, only one could achieve this speed with the other two maxing out around the 2300MHz DDR area.

Today we'll be looking at the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZHD kit which is of course a PC3-17000 kit as the name would suggest. Of course, supporting the new Sandy Bridge-E platform, the first thing we notice is that the kit consists of four modules so they can be ran in Quad Channel on our ASUS Rampage IV Extreme today.
Moving in closer to the modules, we can get a better idea of what exactly is going on with the speed and the timings of the kit. Of course, we know that PC3-17000 translates to 2133MHz DDR and this is probably going to be one of the more popular numbers for the new quad channel kits with 2133MHz DDR hitting that performance point we love to see without carrying with it 2400MHz DDR prices.

Since we posted our launch article on the Intel Core i7-3960X we have been getting e-mails asking about detailed memory questions on the Intel X79 platform. Today, we show you how single, dual, triple and quad-channel performs on the Intel DX79SI motherboard! We also test out 1066, 1333, 1600, 1866 and 2133 MHz memory performance with a quad-channel kit to see what happens to performance at various clock speeds. This is a must read review if you are going Intel X79!

X79 is here and that simply means a change in the way that things are done. It doesn't just mean a new motherboard and a new processor, but also a new memory architecture. In terms of Intel, X58 saw us utilising Tri-channel memory, whilst Sandy Bridge P67/H67 and Z68 saw the famous dual-channel memory being the chosen technology which rivalled AMD with the same tech.
Memory
The launch of the new X79 platform brings with it the introduction of a new memory standard in the form of "Quad Channel". During our testing, Quad Channel hasn't had the best start as we see some programs have a real issue testing it at the moment. The biggest culprit for that seems to be AIDA64. Considering how active they are, though, I'm sure that we'll see this change soon.

In what feels like ages ago now, during Computex we saw Apacer show off the new ARES PC3-17066 kit. I've used Apacer RAM in the past, but I couldn't even tell you how long ago it was and while we've seen the company offer quality module after quality module over the years, it's really been in that main stream segment with high end performance not being something they've focused a lot on.
