Since we posted our launch article on the Intel Core i7-3960X we have been getting e-mails asking about detailed memory questions on the Intel X79 platform. Today, we show you how single, dual, triple and quad-channel performs on the Intel DX79SI motherboard! We also test out 1066, 1333, 1600, 1866 and 2133 MHz memory performance with a quad-channel kit to see what happens to performance at various clock speeds. This is a must read review if you are going Intel X79!

Sometimes there's more to a memory module than meets the eye : Corsair Dominator and Mushkin Redline modules have always looked better than nice, and now they have the performance to match. We put these two against the OCZ Blade, a real high end kit based upon Elpida's "hyper" chips, and against our 8 previous triple channel kits, in order to get a good view of the Core i7 memory landscape to date.

In the past few months it has been clear that memory manufacturers have mastered high specification triple channel kits with those like Corsairs Dominator-GT really impressing us. So today we have two more kits on our test bench from OCZ and G.Skill, both of which are capable of running at 2000MHz. Added to this we have a set of memory from Kingston which is one of the few that favours volume over extreme speed, their product gives us three 4GB sticks in one kit for a total of 12GB.

ECS A890GXM-A is a very utilitarian, but also somewhat original motherboard. It may lack some advanced overclocking features, but it has no memory modules compatibility issues. If you're not going to overclock RAM, you should definitely consider this model.

Most of us are familiar with GeIL Memory’s existence and while the company almost seems like that distant-aunt’s-cousin-whom-we-don’t-really-know over here at Custom PC Review, today we’ll be checking out a new line of products from one of their newest sub-brands, EpicGear. Being a newly established sub-brand, EpicGear doesn’t have many products in their lineup, but they were more than happy to share with us three of their newest products...

Curious about the technical differences between DDR3, DDR2 and DDR memories? In this tutorial we explain them all.

The system's RAM (Random Access Memory) prevents the PC from achieving its maximum capable performance. This occurs because the processor (CPU) is faster than the RAM, and usually it has to wait for the RAM to deliver data. During this wait time the CPU is idle, doing nothing (that's not entirely true, but it fits our explanation). In a perfect computer, the RAM would be as fast as the CPU. Dual-, triple-, and quad-channel are techniques used to double, triple, or quadruple the communication speed between the memory controller and the RAM, thus increasing the system performance. In this tutorial, we will explain everything you need to know about these technologies: how they work, how to set them up, how to calculate transfer speeds, and more.
