Earlier this year we took a look at our first Viper 4 DDR4 memory kit from Patriot. That kit was a quad-channel kit designed for the X99 platform. Now that Intel’s Z170 chipset is here we have dual-channel DDR4 which we’ve seen to be more stable at higher frequencies. Patriot has sent us one of their latest Viper 4 DDR4 kits which is an 8GB dual-channel kit that runs at 3400 MHz! With official timings of 16-18-18-36 at 1.35V the PV48G340C6K kit is set to perform quite well on Z170 systems. On top of the fast speeds the memory kit features a custom-designed heatspreader that is black and red that will match many popular motherboards out there. Let’s get this memory installed and see what it can do!

With a cost around $200 - $250 USD the Kingston KHX16000D3K3/3GX memory certainly doesn't come cheap. However, an extra edge in performance is what every diehard PC Enthusiast wants, and these modules unquestionably deliver. These Kingston memory modules are the fastest speed currently available on the market.

On the one hand, the answer is clear: if you want to save some money and not lose much (or any) performance, it will be reasonable to redistribute your budget and buy DDR2 memory, which is still cheaper. Also, the relatively old overclocker DDR3 memory kits for other platforms work well with Phenom II, and in most cases they even significantly exceed their recommended frequencies.

Overclockers and PC hardware enthusiasts understand that system memory performs best with low latency and fast speeds, but both seldom come in the same package. Kingston offers the exception. Available with two XMP eXtreme Memory Profiles, the Kingston HyperX DDR3 memory kit can deliver either 1867MHz CL7, or 2002MHz at CL8. Sold in dual- and triple-channel kits, Benchmark Reviews tests the KHX2000C8D3T1FK3/6GX set against a wide range of modules in our RAM tests using the six-core Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processor.

It's always better to have and not need, than to need and not have. This Golden Rule applies to computer system memory as much as the other aspects in life, and having more RAM than your PC needs can only help matters. Multimedia editors require large amounts of memory to keep their encoding tasks moving at top-speed, otherwise the PC's much slower storage drive is called into play. Crucial offers the power-user a guaranteed boost to system performance, with their triple-channel 12GB DDR3 memory kit. The Crucial CT3KIT51264BA1339 UDIMM kit consists of three 4GB DDR3 modules rated for 1333MHz CL9-9-9-25-1 each. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the high-density RAM kit against memory big and small, fast and slow.
