If you use your rig to listen to music then there is a good chance you won’t be happy with the onboard sound from the motherboard. ASUS have released the STX II and STX II 7.1 to build on the huge success they experienced from the earlier Essence STX solution. Today we review their follow up sound card and headphone amplifier – the Essence STX II 7.1 Sound card.
I spend the larger part of last Sunday at a beach roughly 90km away and to my surprise after one hour of me being there i noticed several people (not many but way more than last year or the year before) carrying portable Bluetooth speakers with them which they seemed to put to good use later on (not very loud models but enough to sufficiently cover a small area). Weirdly enough however most of those speakers were not rugged so I’m still having a hard time figuring out why one would risk damaging a speaker just by bringing it to the rather "harsh" conditions of the beach. Normally i wouldn't be thinking about something like that for so long since it's not really important but it so happened that at the same time i was also testing the latest flagship rugged portable wireless speaker by Jabra the Solemate Max so i guess that a small comparison was inevitable.
For some time, we’ve shared our underwhelming experiences with sound cards and headsets with integrated audio processors that featured virtual surround sound. Positional audio is a desirable and much wanted feature gamers want, but obtaining a set of 5.1 or 7.1 speakers may be neither reasonably priced nor practical for some people. Speakers are typically one of the most ignored pieces of equipment. To the average user the 2.1 system they got for $20 after rebate is good enough but until once you’ve heard the different you’re going to want the rockus! This 2.1 system is not like any another. Speakers are a nearly necessary peripheral for your computer, but lots of users for various reasons spend quite a fair bit of money on such systems. We have found that either users buy a fairly cheap pair of speakers (or similar 2.1 system) or they splash out a decent amount of money and buy a full surround 5.1 system.
