We were very impressed by the EA93, it's a unique and daring monitor with a very stylish design. Of course it would have been nice to able to adjust the height of the screen, but other than that it is very complete in terms of features and the performance is excellent in many areas. Where the EA93 really stands out is with colour rendering, it is one of the best we've seen in this regard. We do wonder if graphic designers and photo/video editors will prefer 2560x1080 over 2560x1440.

Today we are looking at the latest 24 inch monitor from ASUS – the VG248QE, which sports a 1080p resolution, nVidia 3D Vision support and a 144hz refresh rate for super smooth 3D gaming. We weren’t overly impressed with the VG278HE 27 inch 144hz screen when we reviewed it back in October last year so we hope the VG248QE can produce the goods.

Recently NVIDIA made the biggest change to their 3D Vision ecosystem, probably since launch, with the release of 3D Vision 2. A combination of the latest range of 3D displays with updated hardware and advances made in the driver enhance the experience.

Out of the four most affordable screens in the test - the AOC e2343F2, Acer G246HLBbid, LG E2442T-BN and the BenQ GL2450 - the Acer one is the best choice for response times, and the LG E2442T-BN has the best viewing angles, brightness and colour fastness. Especially gamers with a limited budget should consider the Acer G246HLBbid.

With the introduction of USB monitors using DisplayLink technology, adding a portable external monitor such as today’s review item is as simple as plugging in a thumb drive. AOC’s previous USB based monitor the e1649Fwu used USB 2.0 for the connection, while today’s review model the e1659Fwu USB Monitor uses the faster USB 3.0 connection. This connection theoretically will provide higher quality images through the higher bandwidth of the faster USB format.

LG’s 84LM960V is the first UHD television that we've tested, and we like what we see so far. UHD material looks fantastic with lots of detail and depth to the picture. It's a shame that LG didn't invest more in the upscaling of HD material, something that Sony and Sharp do really well with their UHD models. Right now our advice is - even if you're wealthy - to wait for the next generation of UHD televisions. The Full HD upscaling will undoubtedly be improved, and the prices will likely start to go down. That second generation isn't far off either. At CES LG already showcased smaller 55-inch and 65-inch UHD models that possibly have a different engine. Sony, Toshiba and Sharp are expected to roll out more UHD models in the coming months as well.

ASUS announced its new 'Designo' monitors several months back, and we recently managed to get our hands on one of them. We tested the 27-inch MX279H, a monitor with a striking design. It has an elegant base and aluminium frame, and has several similarities with the recently tested and excellent LG IPS277L. It will be interesting to find out how the two compare.

Panasonic are now onto their third generation of 3D active shutter glasses (model number TY-EW3D3MU). Although Panasonic Australia cannot confirm a local release date, I've picked up a few pairs whilst overseas and am keen to see how they stack up against the first and second generation pairs. Panasonic's first generation glasses (TY-EW3D10U) were memorable for the design faux pas of massive open sections at the sides which let light shine through. Anyone that's viewed 3D content will be aware that the darker the environment, the better, so whoever decided that this would be a great design choice should have been challenged.
