While some people may choose to let the price of a monitor determine which model they'll buy, some choose to dive a little deeper and base the purchase on the panel the model has opted for. Ultimately we've got two choices; TN which tends to favour gamers and people on a budget, and IPS for those who want higher quality and are happy to pay a little more for it.

I know that most people who overclock don't consider that their memory is going to get that hot under stress, and with my first couple of kits of DDR3 I was in that boat. Doing the usual finger test under loaded conditions, I always assessed a cooler running temperature than what my DDR2 would run at. Times have changed and more and more manufacturers are pushing the ICs to either higher levels of speed, or tightening the timings as far as they can go to offer better performance to the end user. Now I run my memory pretty fast normally, and I tend to try to keep my DDR3 at around 2400 MHz for day to day usage. With that, I did start to notice the ICs were warming up, and double checking with my IR thermometer, I was slightly surprised to see 45° or above during the toughest stresses.

With the ever expanding use of smartphones and other clever little electronic gadgets, one problem the world is starting to come to terms with is that there is just never enough power to go around. Lugging around chargers can be a real pain, especially if you need a different one for each device. However, Coolermaster have produced what a few others have done, a backup power supply. However, this isn't its first iteration, this new version of the Power Fort comes with a simple USB interface hoping to standardise backup charging. Let's see if it's as effective without the myriad of charge heads.

There are all sorts of ways to tame the noisy array of fans within your PC case. Some of them are rather fancy, but have a higher learning curve. Some cases come with very basic fan rheostats that control all of your fans at once. Sometimes you want a no-nonsense direct way to control each fan individually, but you still want it to be worthy of your modded PC case.

I’ve taken a look at a few media players here on TestFreaks and most are fairly decent and honestly they’re all pretty similar at least in the interfaces. Today for review I’ve got another one from Cirago called the CiragoTV Pro CTP1000. It’s a media player with HDMI, Component and Composite outputs so you can use it with any TV and it includes a 500gig hard drive for you storage. The CTP1000 also has a memory card reader and a USB port so you can read directly from memory cards, USB flash drives or USB hard drives so you can expand the storage or quickly view things without transferring them to the main hard drive. One thing about this product though is that it’s UBS only for transfers, there’s no networking with this unit, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Read on..
