Gone are the days of monochromatic screens, polyphonic ring tones and battery lives measured in days not hours! As smart phones have developed (particularly since the introduction of the iPhone) screens have become larger, brighter and higher in resolution, connectivity is "always on" and multimedia (be it music, movies or photos) is a minimum requirement. All this technology is wonderful but it has had a detrimental impact on battery life. Try as they might with the latest polymer battery technology, manufacturers are squeezing more features in to smaller physical forms and something has to give. Recharging your phone is now as much a part of the daily routine as cleaning your teeth or styling your hair. Forget to charge your phone and its only a matter of hours before the phone shuts down and you miss that important business call or Justin Bieber's latest tweet on Twitter (OMFG!!).

The Asus RT-N12 is a simple, affordable way to add a router to any SOHO network. For $40 it brings a lot to the table including a user-friendly interface, strong wireless coverage, router/AP/repeater mode switching, and the ability to create up to four SSID's. If you don't need dual-band access or USB ports, this router is a solid choice that can be up and running in no time.

Everything you buy tends to be electronic based and of course this comes with a charger or power supply of some form. This wasn't really a problem a few years ago back but most people now have multiple devices that fit this category and as such have many chargers, I'd go as far as saying I have well over 30 different chargers in my room that are used most weeks! Unfortunately chargers are not only bulky and have a large length of cable but the real problem I find is that they are all very similar but not usually the same. This means it can take you a while to find the correct charger and untangle the mass of cables that inevitably get mixed up. For this reason I'd love a product that was able to charge all of my devices in one place, especially if it could be done wirelessly (as so to speak).

The Patriot Box Office Core has proven to be an extremely versatile media player. It played all the video, audio and photo formats I tossed its way, and the various connectivity options make playing media from multiple sources quick and easy. Its compact size and near silent operation round out a solid alternative to a HTPC, especially when you consider the $80 price tag.

It's nice to think as the user you have full control over as many aspects affecting your PC as possible, to make sure that this is the case selecting the right core components is very important.
