Recently I described my latest Hackintosh build, a mini-ITX system based on an Intel Core i3-3220 CPU, an ASUS P8H77-i motherboard, and an ASUS GTX660 video card. I had to work with what our vendors sent us for the project, but that doesn't mean that you do. In this follow-up article I'll explore the performance and price of some different CPU and video hardware options.

On our Windows 8 test platform we were able to quickly see the benefits of running with the C6 and C7 power states enabled. We found that with C6/C7 disabled that the system would idle between 23.7 and 24.1 Watts, but with them enabled we were seeing between 20.5 to 21.2 Watts. Both numbers are impressive as you have to keep in mind that the whole system is being measures here with a Kill-A-Watt power meter at the wall outlet...

Anker is a company that knows and understands power banks and power solutions. The Astro Slim2 is a great example of Anker’s work and ability to help you with your power needs throughout the day. This power bank is a very smart not only in design, but also in function. The integrated Micro USB cable is an extremely nice touch, as it helps keep annoying wires out of the way when recharging devices (namely your phone). The dual recharging ports are a great added feature for those who may carry around two phones, such as myself, or those who want to help a friend out in need.

EagleTech's Neptor NP100K-WH External Battery Pack helps fill the void until we can fit lightning into an "AA" size package. The Neptor NP100K-WH has a capacity of 10,000mAh and can charge two devices at the same time with its 2.1Ah and 0.5Ah USB charging ports. The battery inside the unit is replaceable, and is about $20 less to replace than getting a whole new charger. The NP100K comes with a micro-USB cable for charging and sports a carrying case that is both stylish and tough enough to protect the battery during travels. With such a large capacity it's able to charge most phones 3 or 4 times, or it can fully charge a tablet with some left over for part of a second charge. Measuring in at 16 x 66 x 95 mm and weighing only 190g, it's very portable and even fits in most pockets.

The mobile accessory market is a flurry of good, bad, decent, and fantastic products. Apotop has managed to break into the crowded market and stand out among the rest. They were kind enough to send us three of their products, Travel Wi-Router, Wi-Reader, and Wi-Reader Pro. Each product shares similar feature sets, Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing an SD Card or USB device with a mobile device, and built-in battery ready for travel use. It all sounds promising, continue reading to see if Apotop delivers.

The Giada D300 is a complete mini system that is backed by a 2 year warranty. While it is not capable of running graphic intensive games such as Crysis 3, Skyrim, or Metro: Last Light. If it can't run graphic intensive games with the Intel HD4000 integrated graphics, what could it be used for? As a Home Theater PC it would be a perfect fit, running a web browser, browsing pictures, playing music, streaming video such as Netflix and even some games that do not need a powerful GPU. In addition, the HD4000 graphics was also more than capable of handling a 3D MKV video file...
