Our digital lives have us spending a ton of time in front of screens, and sometimes eye strain can occur as a result. GUNNER Optiks has been producing glasses for some time to help counter this problem, and SteelSeries, seeing an obvious advantage for gamers, has teamed up with the company to create the DESMO.

For this mod I used a Silverstone TJ11. To many, this is the most coveted full tower water cooling case to own and mod. I decided to do a Steampunk mod because there are not very many out there. Not saying I could out do any of them, I just thought it would be a really fun thing to try. Most of my ideas came from looking at photos online of clothing, jewelry and just old Steampunk style photos. I also did not play very much of this mod. I just played it by ear as I went. Overall I am very pleased with how it came out and I fully plan on doing another one in the future.

As the glue in a well-equipped home theater, the audio video receiver (AVR) is a natural hub where audio and video processing can be consolidated into a single device alongside other functions like over the top (OTT) IP services. Onkyo has embraced this ideal with the 135 watts per channel TX-NR818, which offers decoding support for all of the modern audio codecs, HQV video processing and scaling up to 4K UltraHD. More importantly when it comes to room correction, arguably the most important feature of a modern AVR, the TX-NR818 offers Audyssey‘s flagship MultEQ XT32 – an outstanding feat given its $1200 MSRP (~$800 street). With all of the features included, the TX-NR818 seems to be an incredible value, offering unmatched capability per dollar. Moving beyond the spec sheet however, nothing is without compromise – let’s dig in and discover where Onkyo’s 2012 mid-range master excels, and where it does not.

Workstations and business related products are not normally what we cover here at ThinkComputers. We are more consumer and enthusiast based, but our friends at Lenovo asked us if we would take a look at their latest workstation system the ThinkStation S30. We decided why not since we never cover things like this and who knows many some of you reading this review might pick up a few of these for your office. The ThinkStation S30 we are taking a look at today features an Intel Xeon E5-1620 Sandy Bridge processor, NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics, 8GB of DDR3-1333 memory, and two Seagate 500GB 7200 RPM drives in a RAID 0 setup. Let’s see what the S30 is all about!

Roku made a name for itself by providing a device that, for many, is synonymous with Netflix streaming. The quality of that service, and other premium, IP delivered media, has increased significantly since the original box was launched, necessitating an update to modernize the lineup and provide support for HD content. To address this, we now have the Roku 2 comprised of three models: HD, XD, and XS, spanning the range from $60 to $100. Each of the devices is capable of 5.1 bit streaming, but the Roku 2 HD, which is limited to 720p, it is not as interesting as the other two which are capable of delivering 1080p video. Today we take a look at high-end XS, which tops the XD by including Roku’s Bluetooth gaming remote, a USB port, and Ethernet.

The NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface (SLI) has been linking two or more video cards together to produce a single output since being re-introduced in 2004. For nearly a decade NVIDIA SLI bridges have been used to reduce bandwidth constraints and send data between the graphics cards directly by bypassing the computers motherboard chipset. Over the years flexible 'ribbon' style bridge cables and solid PCB bridges have been the two ways manufactures used to pair NVIDIA GeForce video cards together. After so many years seeing the same boring interconnects being used, we were very happy to learn that EVGA was coming out with Pro SLI Bridges. The EVGA Pro SLI bridges were designed to look good and they have an EVGA logo that is illuminated with LEDs! Read on to find out more!

For those unfamiliar with the Hauppauge Colossus, it is an HD-capable video capture device that can be used to capture all types of video whether it comes from a TV provider’s set-top box, video game console or VCR. The Colossus features a plethora of inputs and outputs all in a single PCIe x1 slot to cover all of these capture scenarios. Compared to tuner-based solutions, the Hauppauge Colossus can potentially offer the ultimate choice in HDTV programming providers as well as provide the ability to record content completely free of DRM.

In an HDMI A/V environment, Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is the glue that ties components together into a cohesive unit--able to be controlled by a single remote without the hassle, or expense, of a normal universal as well as removing infrared’s (IR) line-of-site requirement for playback devices. Where there can be problems with the protocol, most often the root cause is linked to the unfortunate fact that CEC works [best] when every component on the HDMI bus supports it – which until recently has left home theater PC (HTPC) users out in the cold. Coming to market with anHDMI+USB dongle, Pulse-Eight brought this segment into the modern age, but with the form factor trade-offs demanded of an external adapter and lacking of wake-from S5 (soft- off) some compromise was still required. Fortunately for those with Intel Media Series motherboards offering an HTPC_HEADER like the DH61AG or DH77DF, Pulse-Eight is back with an internal solution able to correct both of these gaps.
