Last year in the hot summer heat, during the peak of power usage for most of the US, OCIA.net reviewed the P3 Kill-A-Watt electricity meter. This nifty little device earned our Seal of Approval for its usefulness in monitoring exactly how much power our electronic devices consume. However, manually plugging and unplugging devices or having to crawl under your desk to flip the switch on a power strip can become tedious or at the very least, inconvenient for most people, just to save a few bucks on our electric bill. Today I have two new products for review from a company named TrickleStar that address these issues. It's the PC TrickleSaver and accompanying accessory, the TrickleSwitch.

With the greater technology available nowadays, IP camera has become more valuable in term of functionality and flexibility. TV-IP121WN is one of the Trendnet latest wireless N IP cameras which offers 4x greater coverage as compared with wireless G IP camera, infrared night vision up to 16 feet, motion detection via email/ftp/http alerts, one touch WPS, SecurView Pro software and etc.

Many people seem to have a hard time leaving the convenience of their local Wi-Fi network although they all know that it can't actually reach the throughput data transfer speed of a wired connection. Wiring a brand new house with Ethernet (CAT5/6) cables may not be quite easy but it's also the most ideal solution if you want the best possible performance for your local network (although it can get somewhat expensive). However for old houses/structures that is not really possible (unless you don't care having them around) and so in such cases you can either rely on a Wi-Fi connection or on Powerline adapters. Of course since Powerline adapters practically use the electrical wirings of the structure their performance is directly affected by their quality/age. Still even so Powerline adapters are quite faster than most Wi-Fi connections (especially when the modem/router is not near) something which we've proven time and again through our reviews. This time however in our lab we have the smallest Powerline adapter in the market to date, the TPL-406E 500Mbps compact powerline AV adapter by TRENDnet.

Yesterday the IEEE group (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) announced the next standard in Ethernet connectivity which should be able to achieve remarkable data transfer speeds ranging from 400Gbps and up to 1Tbps. Of course to most users this will not be of much importance (at least at first) but for enterprises and professionals such speeds will be of tremendous value (especially when used alongside large SSD arrays). Until that day comes however the only equipment available to us are 1Gbps modem/routers and 500Mbps Powerline adapters like the ones we've been testing lately and because many of you seem to be out searching for the ideal adapter today we are testing the latest TPL-405E 4-Port 500Mbps Powerline AV adapter by TRENDnet.

Sometimes when you don't use a specific product in your daily life you can fail to see its importance and in a way up until recently i did exactly that in regard to Powerline network adapters since i wasn't aware of just how many people out there actually use them to fill the gap between normal wired and wireless connections. That's also the reason as to why for the past couple of months I’ve been trying to test as many Powerline adapter sets as i can get my hands on so everyone who uses such devices can know exactly what each of those solutions has to offer. So following the quite good PL-550D 500Mbit/s Powerline adapter set by RaidSonic we had the chance to test roughly 2 weeks ago today we will be testing the latest TPL-402E2K 500Mbps Powerline AV Adapter Kit by TRENDnet.

We live in dangerous times, i am sure that no one can really deny that so it goes without saying that we need to take extra steps to ensure the safety of both our loved ones and everything we own. This is partially as to why I’ve been testing various security devices during the past 5 years including IP cameras and motion sensors (the 2nd is more of a hobby to me). However setting up a security grid made out of several IP cameras around your house and/or your office is a lot more complicated than many seem to think and so today we are going to see how an 8-port 10/100Mbps PoE Switch like the TPE-PS44 by TRENDnet can aid you with that.

802.11n is the latest version of 802.11 standards which has 14x greater speed and 6x greater range than 802.11g. Although 802.11n is still in draft which will not be finalized until December 2009 but many related networking products are being sold based on draft 2 of the 802.11n proposal. Today we will take a look on TRENDnet TEW-639GR; 300Mbps wireless N Gigabit router.

Since the introduction of wireless networking (back in the days of direct path microwave), people have been looking for better, faster and more secure ways of doing things. When the wireless network hit the home it was slow; there is no other way to describe it. It was slow and clunky. Today, while wireless is still not as fast as wired networks, we are seeing pretty big leaps in speed. The n specification brings us up to 300Mbps (that is 150Mbps each direction).
