This weekend many witnessed the release of Apple’s iPad; an event that could be equated to the premiere of a summer blockbuster movie. James Cameron’s Avatar and Apple’s iPad have more in common than most can imagine. There were lines of people, great expectations, and numerous detractors before seeing it firsthand; these descriptions can apply to either event. Whether the iPad is the financial and critical success as the Cameron movie remains to be seen. Today we will look at the great and not so good aspects of Apple’s latest device.

Not too terribly long ago the internet was awash with rumors of an Apple tablet. Everyone was talking about it; what was it going to look like? What would it be like to use? We all had our theories. For the record; when we thought about it we always envisioned a large scale personal media player combined with an e-book reader.

The 21.5 inch Apple iMac is quite an interesting machine. It looks pretty good in our opinion and has interesting specs. The Intel Core i5 combined with the nVidia GeForce GT640M results in a pretty decent performance. We applaud the fact that Apple opted for 8 GB RAM. Apple also made the right choices in other departments, resulting in an IPS display and numerous connectors, and an excellent Wi-Fi chip. The main problem we have with this iMac is the HDD, which is very slow.

The 27-inch iMac we tested costs £1,699, and that's not nothing. You do get a very stylish computer in aluminium with above-average specifications. It has an excellent 27-inch display, a powerful processor, 8 GB of RAM and a fast graphics card. The main drawback is the slow hard disk, in a configuration like this an SSD should be standard.

This version of the 27-inch iMac is a very fast system, and it still of course has the outstanding 27-inch 2560x1440 display. We loved how the Fusion Drive works in MacOS X. It strikes the perfect balance between having a fast SSD and lots of storage, and it automatically prioritizes which applications and data are stored where.

The version of the 27 inch iMac we tested is a power-house. It came with a fast Core i7, a powerful GeForce GTX 780M video card and a beautiful 2560x1440 screen. It's a shame that the Fusion Drive only works in MacOS X, so if you plan on using Windows a lot it's better to get an SSD instead. Bottomline, the 27-inch iMac is still one of the best all-on-one PCs you can get, especially in the configuration we had.

As access point the Apple AirPort Express is a very good product. The device is easy to configure and has excellent wireless performance. We would not recommend using it as a router, because the hardware is a bit too limited for that with the small number of ports and the Fast Ethernet standard. The ports can't keep up with the wireless speeds that can be achieved. A gigabit switch partially gets around that problem, and while the Express might suffice as a router for many consumers, chances are you will run into its limitations.

The mobile accessory market is a flurry of good, bad, decent, and fantastic products. Apotop has managed to break into the crowded market and stand out among the rest. They were kind enough to send us three of their products, Travel Wi-Router, Wi-Reader, and Wi-Reader Pro. Each product shares similar feature sets, Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing an SD Card or USB device with a mobile device, and built-in battery ready for travel use. It all sounds promising, continue reading to see if Apotop delivers.
