Welcome to another Case Mod Friday showcase! This week we have Kier's "Parvum Extreme MbK" build. Here is what he had to say about it: They guys from Parvum systems came to me with the question "If I could mod the new Parvum case?" Hell yeah...love working with acrylic so couldn't say no.

CyberPower recently released the Gamer Ultra 2098, which is an AMD powered budget gaming PC. We are actually excited to get this PC as it uses the new AMD FX-4100 3.6 Ghz quad-core 'Bulldozer' processor along with the Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 1GB video card and 8GB of DDR3 memory. It should be a fairly robust budget gaming PC that has an MSRP of $609.00. Read on to see how it performs!

In our previous Apple TV article, we un-boxed the A-TV and detailed what you would need to do to get your media files to play. Basically, once you have them in a ‘container’ that iTunes can understand (MP3, M4A) you would drop and drag them into iTunes so that they are visible to Apple TV. You have to convert non-iTunes-compatible files by using a third-party converters like Super and Handbrake to allow iTunes to catalog the media. Read on to hear Ken's thoughts on the latest Apple TV!

When it comes to drive enclosures, both of the internal and external flavour, there is, generally speaking, one name that always pops to mind and this is Icy Dock. For many years now they have been creating enclosures, mounts and backplanes in a whole heap of varieties – some of which we’d never have thought were useful. The backplane that I’ll be looking at today is just one example of a product that I’d look through their catalogue, see and skip past as it doesn’t immediately jump out to me as a product that needs much attention.
For the vast majority of home users, having a server at home is not something that would really shout out as being needed and on the whole, they are not, but with media streaming and file sharing become more common, some users are making the move to build their own. Naturally the obvious path, rather than buying one, is to build a system from common desktop components, using a mid tower chassis to house everything, but many chassis only offer internal drive bays and there can be few at that. For those that are keen on keeping things backed up or who want easy access to their drives without having to open the case, having a backplane is a simple solution that gives flexibility of access whilst adding additional 3.5″ space.
The MS155SP-B that we’re looking at today is a simple, straight to the point backplane. By simply mounting into the optical drive area, this backplane gives five additional drive bays that can be individually removed from the system in a hot-swap manner with ease.
Anyone that has owned an Icy Dock product of this type or have read my past reviews on some of their products will know that they like to keep the packaging and extras down to a minimum, after all there’s no need for a heap of paperwork, leaflets and other non-vital parts that typically ends up staying in the box.

The importance of SSD controllers often gets overlooked in the world of SSDs. Memory itself is front and center in the minds of most, simply because it is the most prominent component in any SSD. Most recently, we are even seeing Apple using the term ‘flash’ in its product literature , rather than ‘SSD’. Not only is the controller capable of providing lightning fast speeds and up to 256-bit encryption in today’s SSDs, but also, it extends the life of SSDs through wear leveling, garbage collection, and TRIM. To give you a small glimpse of how advanced the controller really is, it actually monitors each block of memory to ensure all wear equally. Now consider that a 256GB SSD contains 4.2 million of these blocks, each part of a constant ‘behind the scenes’ movement to ensure memory wears equally and prolongs the life of the SSD; it becomes quite an impressive feat.

We've got an interesting all-in-one combo that mates a monitor and an Android system. Just how well does this match work? Read our review to find out.
