Today we are looking at the latest Zotac Zbox Nano AD10 system, a diminutive, low cost computer, ideal for duties as a general workhorse system and for high definition media playback.
The ZOTAC ZBOX ID89 Plus contains the usual selection of 2.5" hard drive, wireless-n wi-fi and the like but manages to include support for dual channel memory and arrives kitted out with a Core i5 CPU. All in a chassis not much bigger than most external drive enclosures.
CES 2013 brought upon us another year of great product launches yet to come but there is one product you won’t have to wait long for and that is the ZOTAC ZBOX ID83. ZOTAC has been churning out these Small Form Factor PCs for quite some time and while most of the units we took a look at last year were based upon AMD architecture things are about to change.
Sapphire recently released the AMD A8 based Edge VS8 mini-PC and now we get a chance to see what ZOTAC's latest generation of system can offer in comparison. The ZBOX ID83 Plus takes us into Ivy Bridge in a system which is comparable in size to a decent router, let's find out how it performs...
The Zotac ZBOX ID83 plus in a small form factor pc that is ideally suited for use as an HTPC. Zotac packs an Intel 3rd generation Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz dual core processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000 into the ZBOX ID83 plus, along with a 500 GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM. They manage to squeeze all of this power into a 7.4 by 7.4 by 1.73 inch package. The hard drive is a standard 2.5” notebook drive and up to 16GB of memory can be installed. The system has support for HDMI 1.4a as well as a DVI connection. Connectivity is handled by either a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection or the integrated 802.11 B/G/N wireless. The front of the ID83 Plus has analog audio connection, a 6-in-1 memory card reader, USB 2.0 port, and LED indicators. The mini PC is compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 8 both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Accessories include a VESA monitor mount, stand, DVI adapter, and media center remote with IR receiver.
Though the Zotac ZBOX won’t win any awards for blazingly fast performance, for just a shade over $200, you get a nice-looking, thoughtfully designed platform to which you can add the HDD, RAM, and OS of your choice. If you’re frugal with your additional hardware choices (or have some extras already on hand), this price is very tough to beat, even compared to entry-level desktops.
The ZBOX is a new line of mini-PC's from ZOTAC, as they like to call them, and they are designed to fit into the low-cost computer system market segment as well as for those looking at adding rather good media playback ability to their lounge rooms from a small and quiet device.
