Just about every USB device once purchases comes with a USB cable. However, any person who has a lot of USB devices can veritably explain that not all USB cables are created equal. We first saw Aviiq’s ReadyClips USB cables at CES this year. This trio includes cables with a standard USB A male connector on one end and a micro USB connector (for phones, primarily), mini USB connector (for cameras and such), or an iPod connector.

In a change to what I normally review, namely anything storage and networking based, I've decided to have a little change of scene and this week I'll be looking at a HD capture card from AVerMedia. There are a large number of gamers out there, especially those in teams that like to record their games so that they can review them back to see where they go wrong or to show off their skills to others though the likes of YouTube or live through TwitchTV. Whilst there are a number of external options to chose from, not all give the flexibility to either record or stream and typically most of them are recorders.

A few months ago I took a look at a product that entered a new line on to the list of different products that I've looked at over time. This is namely AVerMedia's RECentral Live Gamer HD - a PCI Express based hardware encoder that takes the effort out of video capture with a simple plug and play installation and a instant record button that connects via USB.
Following on from this bit of kit that ticked all the boxes for me, AVerMedia's R&D teams have been busy working away, thinking a little outside of the box and this brings us forward to what I've got to look at today.
Whilst the PCI-e based capture card is a great bit of kit, there is one slight downfall (if you was to see it as one) in that if you're capturing footage from say a games console such as the Xbox 360 or PS3, you need to have your PC nearby in order to capture the footage. If you're at a LAN event such as Multiplay's Insomnia series or you're popping round to your mates house for a gaming session, the prospect of having to lumbar an extra system around isn't exactly going to rate well and the thought of having a compact portable alternative is music to the ears for many gamers. Fear not as this is exactly what AVerMedia have done.

AVerMedia have been a giant in the video capture/TV tuner industry and have just recently started releasing the HomeFree AVplus range around the world. It's aimed at streaming TV and other TV-related goodies (like your Xbox, or PS3) and can broadcast digital TV, satellite TV and AV-in (as per the previously mentioned consoles) to your PC or iPad via your wireless home network, supporting two users accessing different TV sources simultaneously.

There is an answer to those two problems when using an audio-video (AV) capture solution. Today, we’ll be examining the AVerMedia AVerTV USB HD DVR which, like the Hauppauge Colossus we reviewed, is an AV capture solution that can handle both SD and HD video and can be utilized not just to work with HTPC DVR software, but also to capture any type of video for applications such as recording video gameplay, video stored on a camcorder or VHS tape, etc.

Bluetooth is found everywhere it seems, in speakers, phones, tablets and our computers but there are a lot of things that still don’t have Bluetooth. For example, my favorite set of earphones is the Future Sonics Atrio M5s and they’re wired so I’m sort of stuck being attached to whatever audio source I’m using. There are ways to make them wireless and one of them is what I have for review today, the Avantree Saturn Bluetooth Music Adapter that allows you to use any wired headphones wirelessly. The Saturn though can do more than that, it actually has two modes, one for transmitting and one for receiving. The receiving option is for like my example, I can turn any set of headphones or even speakers into a wireless audio device to stream audio to. The transmitting option allows you to turn any non-Bluetooth device into a Bluetooth one. I’ve tested both modes and it certainly exceeded my expectations and worked perfectly in both modes. So read on to learn more abut a very useful little gadget…
