Allow me to open this review with some honesty. I am not generally a fan of real life setting military shooters. The idolizing of soldiers and glorification of war as a simple battle of heroes (American troops) versus villains (Russians, terrorists, etc.) never really sat well with me.

Speedlink have decided to put together a simple package of 99 games from one of the '80s-to-early-'90s era's most prominent gaming systems - the Commodore 64 - along with a USB imitation of the chunky joysticks representative of those good old days. So we shall now take an [up], [space], [fire], [run] down memory lane to find out if they can hope to cash in on this fine gaming heritage.

Yeah, anyone else remember how bad these things are? Lets just go through 2004 and see how bad these were. I’m gonna skim through the awards for the following years, but this one I want to tear apart. This one I want to go in depth. Why? Because the boss nailed me to a chair and made me watch the stupid stuff. This is worse than Dr. Quinn Medicine woman, trust me, it is BAD.

What a difference a beard makes... Seriously. The promotional material for Splinter Cell: Conviction saw pictures of a bedraggled Sam Fisher plastered everywhere just to let us know that things had changed. Its the classic movie convention - clean cut equals a by the book good guy, stubble equals either a bad guy or a good guy with a tendency to make up the rules as he goes along but the full beard is the uniform of a broken man.

With the success of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series it is easy to forget that they have another widely successful stealth-action series up their sleeve. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell has been around since 2002 when it caught our attention with those ever recognizable glowing green trifocals. While the series hasn’t had the annual release attention since 2006, Ubisoft Montreal still kept the series strong with the release of Splinter Cell: Conviction and this year Ubisoft Toronto take the reins with Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Promising to deliver the same stealth-action we’ve come to enjoy, it is time to take a look at the latest installment in the Splinter Cell series.

Sam Fisher’s adventures in Splinter Cell: Conviction left fans of the franchise divided. Some welcomed the more action orientated approach whilst others cursed the heavens above. Now Sam Fisher is back to save the world and win the hearts of gamers once more.
